OOOOO. i was JUST about to do this to my car! Thank goodness someone posted pics~!!!!
mad props to you man
Same here... I also want to do something with the grille. But honestly, I don't care for either of these ideas. From these pictures, they both look like cheap, DIY spray can projects that kids do to their cars. Take note of the plastic drop-cloth in front of that first G. I bet you whoever took that picture actually painted their grille while it was still on the car. Lutz.
The OEM Midnight Grille will run anywhere north of $300, depending on the dealership... which seems like a lot of money just to go black. So I got a quote a few days ago from a local shop for painting. The plan is to paint the inside gloss black, following the little crease around the left-right-bottom of the grille perimeter, but leaving the outside area chrome, and leaving the emblem chrome.
$120 to prep the surface, mask, paint and clearcoat. (Grille off the car, obviously.)
Here's a picture of the OEM Midnight Grille on a Moonlight White G37S Sedan. Pretty classy look, IMO.

I went the OEM look. Had it vinyl wrapped in gloss black for $75. I choose this route because I can always peel it off if I change my mind. I didn't like the plasti-dip idea. I wasn't into the matte black and the rubbery texture.
