well the G25 was the 2nd cheapest "price as tested" car, and the 328 was a $50K car...which would be a better price comparison to a completely loaded G37. Consumer Reports rates the G37 extremely high, best in class I believe.

^Not necessarily true. Back in 08 they crowned the G37 higher than the 3 series. Car and Driver usually butt humps BMW more than MT.

Sure, but this test was beyond stupid. The stuff they bitched about on the G25, they could have gotten on a G37S and still come way under the BMW in cost.

The BMW cost 50k! Why would someone considering a 50k BMW 328 consider a G25?

It was like they tried to come up with a test that the BMW would have no chance to lose.

Consumer Reports rated the G37 best in class for the past 6 years. They are independent and don't get paid by the Germans like MT does.

rediculous comparison. they had the big engine of some cars (TSX) against the small engine of other cars (G25, IS250), as well as fully loaded models (BMW) against bare-bones (G25). you have to set some sort of bar, and in this class that bar is usually price. if it's $40k, then you get the best example of each for that price, give or take a grand or two.

i don't care what MT said in their weak attempt to justify the BMW, a fully loaded model will typically give an overall better impression than a base model. MT ripped the G25's sparse interior. step up to a G37S and the appearance improves significantly, especially when you delete that horrible tan colour throughout. while i don't think the G25 would have placed in the top 3 if the playing field was even, ~4th is reasonable. if the G37S was in the mix, a top 3 finish would be a lock.

to be honest, the comparo doesn't really offend me as a G owner too much simply because of how rediculous it is. there is no credibility to be concerned about.

I agree that most of the automotive buff mags in the US (MT, CD, R&T) seem to worship at the BMW shrine. They always have a BMW winning any comparison test, but then again the BMW is almost always the most expensive, and not be a small amount.
However, interior wise, I don't think there is much difference from G25 to 37. And we all know that the next generation is only a year or two away. So they may have made some valid points in the review.

The central area of the dash of the BMW (where the center vents and the long row of numbered buttons are located) looks particularly underwhelming in person.

Not factoring in the price makes this article meaningless, as pointed out before. The price differences are even bigger when you look at the actual street price that you can negotiate rather than MSRP.

Frankly, I never understood why Infiniti bothered introducing the G25, but that's a different discussion.

And don't forget the easy cheating BMW can do with their turbos. Last time their 335i got turbo overheating during tests, the production cars produced after had no where close to the power of the test car. And last I checked MT did not get their test cars from the market.

I recall that I read from a reviewer who test drove the 328 at the dealer, the first critical comment he brought up was the cheap interior. How many versions of 328 has BMW ever produced? I guess there are Test version, and production version.
