1500 mile road trip (first trip)

Left Houston Wednesday afternoon and headed up 59 north. Many have traveled that road and know what a POS it is. I was about ready to sell the G car as the road noise was unbearable. It was a lot of chip and seal and uneven concrete, a really screwed road. I had bought Michelin primacy tires thinking that would mitigate any road noise. Once in Louisiana and Mississippi and on asphalt the noises diminished considerably
I also bought a escort 9500 before leaving and it constantly went off about every 20-50 miles. These were not false alerts but radar and even a red light camera. Needless to say I came back I-55 in MS to I-12/I-10 cruising at 80-90 all the way home.
Things I like
1. very little wind noise even at 115
2. controls are laid out where everything is in reach and makes sense.
3. Really like the bluetooth with my IPhone, streaming Pandora where service was and XM where not.
4. Like the Gas fill on the passenger side.
5. Bottle holders in the doors
6. Gas mileage, 22.5-23 @ 80 plus and in town. 26.5 @ 70 with AC, 28 @ 65 w/ac 33 @60 and cruising the back roads in the MS delta 36 @ 55.
7. Very few cars that have as nice a look.
8. Good truck space
9. feature set
10. Kick in the pant acceleration, several times while @70mph I needed to pass, it was a non issue but would have not felt the same in a lot of cars
Things that need improvement
1. Tire noise- fender-well (a lot of cars would have these issues on some of the roads I traveled).
2.Navigation- goofy and complicated, misdirected me through a business route even though I could see the hwy to my side. Set to Fastest route. Was able to use it productively, but a couple of times it was of no help. I like google maps but its still not 100%
3. Seats could be more comfortable, after about 3-4hrs I needed to stretch

All in all I felt very secure and comfortable, The G is easy to drive, great features, decent mileage, good looking, I might just keep it a while.

Hey wagge, with that great gas mileage, I'm wondering if you have the G25. If you get that good in a G37, wow.

Seriously? Those were some jaw-dropping numbers that I am certain would offense many BMW 4-banger lovers out there. Someone almost called my name when I said that I got 27.5 mpg on 300-mile trips.
Are you sure you were not driving down hills?

I believe he said he had the Navi, so it was no G25.

I got 25 mpg going to Vegas from Cali and that's mostly UP hill until you get to Nevada, where it drops quickly.

80+ the whole way. Not bad, IMO.

I am also from Houston. Yeah the G gets noisy on most concrete road. It's pretty quiet on 288S though

As you mentioned, there is little to non wind noise in the G though.

I've averaged 26.2 in my G since the day I bought it with 4700 miles on it. I'm up to 33K and change now. I'd say that is 70-75% highway, 25-30% city, and my city driving isn't real stop and go.

I've made multiple long distance trips between SC and FL, also out to TX. On flat highway I can get 29 with the cruise set at 70 and the a/c on. Drops to about 27.5 when I have the cruise set at 80. I am VERY pleased with the fuel mileage I've seen from this car.

With my 2010 sedan, 7spd. auto,I have been on 2 trips of approx. 4,500 miles each, with my wife and Boston Terrier. The air is always on.The car was completely loaded down with luggage for the trips. I keep it at 80 on the interstates and 75 on the 2 lanes. Both trips I averaged a few tenths over 27 MPG.
