lately my sedan has been acting up at the gas station. i'll try to pump gas, it works great for 3-5 gallons, then it shuts off prematurely. the tank isn't full as i'm always filling up when i'm almost out. i at first thought it was the pump itself, but i move to another one, same ****. only some of the pumps can actually allow me to fill up fully. anyone else have this issue? is there a sensor in the tank that can be broken?

Sometimes it helps to pull the nozzle out an inch or two, don't shove it all the way in.

Mine did it almost every time until I figured out to pump at half speed. It takes longer to fill-up, but it fills ALL THE WAY UP EVERY TIME!

I had this situation on my 350 - if I remember correctly, the dealer ended up replacing a valve that resides between the tank and the fill tube.

On my daughter's Mazda3 - bad charcoal canister.

If none of the other suggestions work, bring it to the dealer and complain. I BELIEVE it is an emissions component (which maybe/might/possibly have a longer warranty than other non-emissions components)

Mine did this on my very first fillup (2012 with 250 miles on it). Thought it was the pump,so pulled up to the next one and it worked fine. Just refilled again at same station and didn't have any issues this time. The pump was very fast though, seems to be an issue with higher pressure stations. Hopefully it won't become an issue, if it does it should be under the emissions warranty and fixable by the dealer.

I made a thread about this awhile back when my car started doing this. It would shut off for a few weeks but it's been fine the last couple of months.

The real problem is that sometimes the gas at stations or even at certain pumps at the same station is foamier than usual (usually occurs in the winter) and this is causing the nozzle to shut off prematurely because it senses it to be full when it isn't. That's why you get this problem at some stations and not at others and even at the same station with different nozzles or why the nozzle won't turn off if you press it halfway or why it seems to occur with higher pressure nozzles as that makes it foamier. Nothing you can do about it really and there's nothing wrong with your car in the vast majority of cases. If it occurs every single time at every station for a couple of months then it may be your car.

Happens to me every now and then. Change pumps and it seems to work. If not, i just force the pump to keep pumping.

I have never had a problem filling up the gas tank with my 2010 G37 sedan.
I have had other vehicles that had problems filling up. The first thing I would do was the recommendation of turning the fuel nozzle on the hose 180 degrees, so it is upside down from the normal position. This resolves a lot of the fill up problems on vehicles. Other vehicles have problems with the vent host pinching or drooping which can cause the fuel flow to shut off.

2012 here, no issues. I never use the fast/high setting, always the medium and sometimes slow if it's a high pressure nozzle.

Happens at some stations for me, I fing holding the hose up a little higher sometimes helps, but the half speed thing works, you just cant use the auto fill. The g is not the only vehicle that has done this, my yukon used to do it all the time.

Happens off and on, but rarely. It's not a big issue. I typically fill up at a Sam's Club with no problems at all.

Last week I stopped at in Exxon on I35 south of Dallas and it took me awhile to fill the tank. Kept stopping over and over. I think the problem is gas-station hardware related.

Until recently I never had a problem. The last 3 fill ups (2 different locations) my 2010 has done this making filling up a real pain. I never go full on with the nozzle, usually set it at click one out of 3 of the auto-holder-open-thingy, so the recent and continual cut offs are annoying.

I will have to try some of these ideas here and hope one works or the cooler weather gas will disappear as spring approaches. I think it is more aggravating that I have NEVER had a problem with my 06, 08, or 10 until recently.

I suppose if this is the worse I have to worry about, I just need to ST*U.
