Most modern cars are just too heavy.
Weight is one of the factor but so as the torque curve.

The 7AT is just not as responsive as it should be.

The bad low end torque and throttle lag make the g not as enjoyable to drive in the city stop and go traffic, while getting 16mpg.

BMW needs to do a lot more to win me back like make their damn cars "serviceable" and "reliable" - bottom line is their reliability is POS and hell no will I buy a "turbo" from a manuf. who doesnt know how to make cars last past the lease period and who sends me to Avis rentacar for "loaners" - Infinity is a much better value proposition and if weight, torque, and response is the only factor hell Ill take a C6 over a 3 series any day... and yes I owned a 330i for 11 yrs - believe me their reliability takes a dump as the car ages...

Anyways, I dig the new 3er seems like the 328 really stepped up and a turbo four is delivering..
Well, I bet I did that to you well before you did the same.

The 328 might handle better than a 335 because of 100lbs, but that is only to a trained professional. People think that matters and can you tell if you have a girl in the passenger seat...no.

I had people tell me that BS when I had the 335 but the track shows speed and a 335 will be faster because it has more power. Period. A Mustang GT is faster than the v6 despite being heavier.

Well, hate to bust that. My '12 G37x get 27.5 mpg on the highway consistently, and I don't baby it, you will surely get even better with RWD only. According to MT - "the 328i is rated at a seriously impressive 24 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. Cruising on the highway at 75-80 mph for 300 miles, our tester returned 30.6 mpg. On a hard-driving, canyon-carving, 150-mile test loop, it managed 16.8 mpg".

I wouldn't consider 16.8/30.6 mpg impressive for a small 4-banger. I doubt someone can actually get close to 36 without having to drive on down slopes.

Yes just picked it up Saturday G37S Sedan.. havent had a chance to take pics and properly "introduce" myself to the forum.. will do so over the weekend

And yes I agree its def. apples to oranges yet price wise they arent that far off.. maybe oranges to tangarenes.... was trying to make the point that a 3 series for pure driving performance isnt the best bang for your buck

and yes I also have a 05 C6

You are getting 28mpg on the freeway down hill...the G doesn't seem to be able to get much over 20...and I'm not sure i'm getting that. I live in Socal which is relatively flat too.

If it's a close call for first place, and company A just bought twice as much ad space as company B, who do you think wins?

I don't know where you live, but where I live there are no canyons-carving, 150-mile test loops. And yes, I think beating the crap out of a turbo for a 150 miles, 16.8 mpg is impressive. Try that on the G that is maybe only slightly faster and probably doesn't handle as well and see if you even get 16.8.

Well, BMW must have been buying a lot of ad space in the last 10 to 12 years. You would think the Japanses manufactures would have wised up to BMW antics and collectively bought much more ad space to get the coveted #1 title for many years in a row, while having their engine on the Wards 10 Best List for many years in row. BMW is sure smart, they got consumers buying their cars for the 2 inch painted blue and white medallion, while outspending the Japanese in ad-space to keep winning comparos.

GDI Dominates Ward

Oh yeah, they are bribing wards also.

I got around 27.5 every time I drive from NJ to VA and back, around 300 miles one way and when traffic was light at night. The car has not yet gotten a chance to see summer gas which supposedly improves mpg. If you could get only low 20 on flat highway with steady speed, I think you need to have your car checked and make sure you are not running on the E80 junk.

Your logic put American in the bad spot dude, as American cars were more often than not placed on or close to the bottom. I am not so sure of smart BMW or dumb American consumers kind of thing, but surely are those aforementioned consumers from whom BMW makes their money and apply some of that money again to brainwash more not so smart consumers? BMW does have a powerful marketing department than most.

Thumbs down

*opens thread*

Still sees a Bangle-bottomed, FI atrocity (As far as Bimmers are concerned, since their old saying was that FI was a crutch for proper engineering)

*walks back out*

Dude, I'm not saying these things. I'm merely repeating the stupidity that has been posted on this particular thread.

Honestly, I wish I was as smart as BMW to do the same thing to my customers.
