Yea just buy another exhaust. Only reason I'm "building one" is too save money and get rid of the stock ****. The flanges and mandrel bends came in today so I'll be finishing the rest of the exhaust this weekend. Going to finish it without out mufflers first. Then if it's too obnoxious I'll buy mufflers and weld them him. Going to sound like a 370z nismo with a resonated tip muffler delete.

The piping on the entire stock exhaust is a bottle neck lol. Lots of pipe size changes in the midpipe and muffler section. Apparently the inlet of the Tanabe is 50mm (where the pipe meets the resonator) and the outlet is 60mm (on the other side of the canister where the tips are). Since the Tanabe is a bolt-on muffler section I believe the 50mm inlet is the same as stock.
That's probably why it's so quiet.

The inlet "connection" on the Tanabe is 50mm to better match the stock piping, but the inlet piping is actually 60mm. You just need to cut off the first 3 - 4" of the muffler piping to remove the reducer section and inlet connection. I believe I still have the pieces that were cutoff... if I can find them then I will take some pics and post them up.
And not sure why everyone thinks the Tanabe is so quiet... Mine is not that quiet. LOL

Like I said, as long as you make sure to cut off the inlet flange and reducer on the Tanabe mufflers then you will have 60mm (2-3/8" piping) going into the mufflers. If your looking for more noise from your exhaust then I think you would be very happy with creating your own resonated mid-pipe and combining it with a modified Tanabe. The set-up I posted actually sounded really good, but I just couldn't deal with the extra drone on the freeway. Although, I'm getting bored of my current set-up and might give a custom set-up another try.
Incidentally, as most have said here, there are very little gains to be had from the cat-back exhaust on our cars no matter what you do. When GTM installed my Super Charger they dyno'ed it with my custom exhaust with Berk HFC's and then they wanted some baselines using their full 2-1/2" exhaust with test pipes and no resonators. The car actually made a couple more HP with my exhaust than it did with a basically wide-open GTM exhaust.

Here's my Tanabe with Berk's/cold start, in a parking garage so it was a little louder than normal.
