It can't really be done. Even if you pulled the propshaft from the transfer case to the front differential the AWD system would still be trying to send power to the front wheels when it detected a difference in rotation speed between the front and rear wheels. So you'd still have a power loss when torque was diverted to the transfer case in an attempt to power the front wheels. Since there's no prop shaft in place, the AWD system would try and send more power to the front wheels since it would still detect a difference in rotation speed.

Good find! You could safely run a staggered offset during the summer and plug it back in for winter mode and put the stock wheels back on. Curious to see how many people actually try this.
