A local auto glass shop told me the other day that they see a fair number of G-37 sedans that are in for windshield repairs. The fellow said that the specific angle of the G's windhield makes it more susceptible to getting stone chips and cracks. I've had my G for over two years now and haven't had any significant problems. How about the rest of you? Does the statement about the G windshield make any sense to you? Any repeated problems with chips or cracks to your G windshield?
I picked up a small rock chip in the lower middle section of the windshield after having the car for like 2 months, but haven't had anything else since then.
After 1 year with my car I had a crack. Got it replaced with an oem windshield, but got a small chip 3 weeks later. I don't even wanna bother having it fixed after that.
I have a huge scratch in the center of my windshield. Happened about 6 months into owning the car. I'm reluctant to get it replaced because it costs so damned much.
4 years with my X and never had a problem with the windshield. I suspect it may be due, in part, to some G owners driving a little over-zealously on the tail of the car in front of them. No one around here though.
We can't do much about debris from traffic in the opposite direction though.
Wouldn't you think in the year 2011, by now someone would have invented a glass for windshield applications which is more scratch and chip repellant than what is being used? I mean, come on, we have glass which can stop bullets traveling at hundreds of feet per second, but we cannot come up with a windshield glass to stop a stone when we are traveling 88 feet per second (at 60 mph)?

It's already available, but how much are you willing to pay for it?
