now, side effect I didn't foresee with the 19's. I think my X understeers even more now! Or I'm just going into turns faster exacerbating the effect.
I do have a rear sway bar from a Z, which helped, plus some stiffer end links. The slow steering of the X doesn't help.
I think the X has the biggest sway on the front of all the G's?
actually what I was thinking of rotarymike Just keeping my stock x setup, it's at least twin piston, doesn't look too bad. Powerstop does the trick of painting both the caliper and the mounting bracket red, so the whole assembly looks better- and importantly BIGGER. And you're right, caliper paint doesn't do too well over time, I've always had it discolor and chip badly.
I was thinking of buying a whole 4 wheel setup in the red from rock auto with drilled coated rotors, rebuilt calipers and pads. I can get all that for about the price of a used set of akabono calipers only.
To keep it on the 19's focus, I do notice some tramlining vs the stock 17's, but it's not bad. The car tries to follow the dips in the road more. Also some tire THRUMM also comes through, but that could be my pick of tires, but it's not bad either. I'm still surprised it rides so well, and I run a couple psi over stock.
If you look at the BBK on the Cheap thread on here, other than buying the rotors and calipers (and pads, and lines) the swap to the bigger brakes is easy peasy. Amazon has the powdercoated calipers on sale from time to time for about $200 for the front PAIR and 160 for the rear pair, vs. 260-360 elsewhere per pair. That gets you known-good-conditon calipers for not much different than the cost of used ones. Pads aren't too bad, lines are pretty cheap even if you go with stainless braided, and rotors come anywhere from stock replacement to DBA 2-piece at $1300/pair. Z1 has some nice middle-to-high-end options.
I had some tramlining too - it was partly tire, and partly alignment - the 19s have different offsets than the 17s, so seems to take a tad bit more toe in.
ok, got mine back and on the car.... before after...by captain obvious
I had them refinished a bit darker than stock, it was an option with no uncharge. I didn't realize it would be so close to the body color.
They also suggested, and I had it done, doing the inside of the wheels in black as it doesn't show the brake dust as much.
and yes Rochester, it would look a lot better lowered (not sure, in the midwest and even at this ride height in the snow I almost got stuck by the frame being beached) The ride is NOT BAD. Bit rougher, but not bad; the new general tires are miles better than the no-seasons the dealer put on the 17's.
...and yes, red akibono brakes would be a very nice touch.
The gunmetal looks good Ross, definitely a HUGE upgrade from the stock 17's. Ironically I find myself in a similar boat on my new G35S- I have the older 18's sport which I loathe. Most likely will be moving the coupe wheels over... but black on black may be a little much. We'll see.
I'm in the market for a new set of wheels, preferably 19". I really love the look of the G37 coupe wheels, but they're hard to come by for a decent price. Another option I have found was the M35S wheels. I've found several sets between $500-$800 which I think is very fair. How do you guys think they look on the G37 sedans?
