got rear ended
got rear ended
Few days ago I got rear ended with little damage or cracked rear bumper and paint scratches. I immediately called the police to make a report and the guy that hit me offered to pay me so he can get away with it. Lucky the cop showed up and investigated that the guy has no insurance or registration for his car. It was a 99 Ford sedan.
My question is, where should I take my car for repairs since the guy agreed to pay for the damages if not I will be seeing him in court.
I'm planning on taking it to the dealer so that way I can have a loaner while the car bring fixed but really where else to take it.
Will the repair show on the car fax for the rear bumper repainted or not.
Sorry for many questions but I'm seeking help to get my car fixed with no carfax issues reported.

If I were you and the damage is just paint scratches, I will take a couple hundreds on the spot w/o calling the cop and just keep the money.
no insurance and no registration. these kind of people should be thrown in jail. sorry for your loss. immediate cash is the only way to let this go. otherwise push it to the limit with your insurance and the cops. otherwise you will be scammed in the end.

I was hit from behind 2 weeks ago with just a bumper crack, and broken sensor.
The guy offered to pay for it also. He drove a POS truck. He was a stand up guy, and did.
I took it to the body shop, they ordered the bumper, foam absorber, and sensor. 3 days later, they called bumper came in they had it painted color sanded, and cleared.
I brought my car in, and it was done in under 2 hours.
They wrote up the estimate offline, so no CarFax.
If you take it to the dealer, everything goes to CarFax.

You called the Police, so the report will go to your DMV which will end up on CarFax

All that being said, because I didn't make a big issue of the situation.
The other driver worked with me.
I got my car fixed in minimal time.
I triggered nothing to initiate reporting, so CarFax wont see it.
Hope it all works out for you.
New bumper paint and labor was $1100.00!!! The parking sensor was $250 above that. Thats from a national estimate guide.

They don't, but when the estimate gets written, its online, and reports to a database. CarFax has access.
Anything done at the dealer goes to CarFax.
I sold my wife's Volvo, the buyer pulled a CarFax, and knew every service done.
If you think you have to replace the bumper, you need to ask for a lot more. My main reason is not to get the police involved to avoid the carfax problem.
Just an FYI, but a few years ago my '07 G35S got rear ended after 12 days of owning it. Brand new '07 purchased 11/06 (first '07 on the dealer lot).
about $7-8k of damages. Police report was filed, worked was done through the dealer, and carfax has no mention of it.
A few years later, someone did a u-turn in front of me from the opposite directory and crunched up my front driver quarter. Same thing, police report, dealer body shop. carfax didn't show any of them.
The accuracy of carfax is pretty heavily dependent on local and state jurisdictions. Many states and police agencies don't report this information to carfax because there are a number of states (minnesota, where i live, being one) that do not allow for diminished value claims, where carfax can be seen as a detriment to selling a perfectly "good" vehicle. In areas where carfax doesn't have a record, they rely on their own research into public records, many of which don't contain any identifying information (such as VIN) unless official requests are made and approved for the records.
So there are a number of posts on this topic that seem to be pretty confident of statement that isn't always true.

hit a deer, called the police = on carfax
a girl hit me from behind, called the police = on carfax
I have no idea what happened to him but I hope he doesn't get a lot trouble cuz he seemed like a nice guy and he did apologized for his mistake. I'm going to take it to a local body shop that is owned by one of my good friend that they only work on high end card to get an estimate of the repairs. I think it only needs to be reprinted.
Sorry to hear...
I got a "dent" in my G's rear bumper. Insurance settled for a shade over $2,000.00. They could have settled for about $1,400.00. But, they insisted on repairing the existing bumper cover instead of replacing it, which ran up the estimate an extra two days with Loss of Use at over $100.00 a day. Plus they pi$$ed me off repeatedly by "misleading" me as to the law and my rights, as if I just fell off a turnip truck, so I demanded diminished value as well.
What you can do depends a bit on what state you are in. IMHO, Keep your eye on the perp. People without insurance aren't always a good credit risk. I'd get an estimate and have it paid up front ASAP.
IMHO, the good news is the uninsured driver wasn't doing 50+ like the one that hit my daughter's Camry and IMHO, if something has to be replaced / repainted, the rear bumper cover is the least problem as the paint match is much less likely to show.
PS. Stand up people have insurance. Sorry for the rant , I feel better now. :-)
