Infiniti Quality Control Inspection?

I got this email from the dealership, what is this about?

"I just wanted to take a moment and congratulate you on the purchase of your
vehicle from Kings Infiniti.

I realize that you have many important events in your life, and that maintaining your
vehicle is not a top priority. However, I just want to remind you how important the
initial 30 day Quality Control Inspection is. With an appointment this service will take 30minutes or less out of your busy schedule, and is the most important step you can take in ensuring the long term performance of your recent investment.

Ideally, we would like to perform this inspection within the first 30 days. A tentative
appointment was scheduled by your salesman when you picked up your car. If the
appointment is not convenient, simply let me know and I will be happy to reschedule when ever it is convenient.

With that in mind, print this e-mail and bring it with you, and I will give you your first oil change for free.

Lastly, I would like to introduce you to our Preferred Customer For Life Maintenance Program. This program is designed to reduce the cost of operating your Infiniti. This program provides basic express engine oil and filter service every 3 months or 3,750 miles as long as you own or lease your vehicle. The cost for this program is only $149.99 if you purchase during your 30 day Quality Control Inspection. If you choose to wait, the price returns to the regular price of $179.99.

Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you. Enjoy your new Infiniti!"

They're wishing to follow up with you to make sure they get a good survey.

When you get the survey, do NOT mention that the dealer mentioned it or they will get into trouble.

It's also an opportunity for them to try to sell you the oil changes.

With my car they looked it over made sure everthing was OK, asked if there were any squeeks or rattles that had developed etc. Sometimes a part might not have been installed correctly at the factory or a bolt tightened enough and the first 30 days of driving will make this noticable. The dealer just inspects the car to make sure it's all up to factory spec.

There was no charge for this for me.

wow oil and filter service for the life of the car for $149? Not a bad deal at all. This also helps with their retention numbers for the service department as well.

Heck even the 179.95 regular price is a good deal. Im looking at 40 or so per oil change at the dealer around here, 179 is only a little over 1 yrs worth.

My dealer only offered me dumb things like "paint and fabric sealant", etc.

Yeah, $149 for lifetime oil changes is a great deal. You'd make that back after 3 oil changes.

They should have done a "quality control inspection" on the car BEFORE selling it, not after.

The unbelievable deal on the oil changes comes with a catch. Don't be surprised if they require you to pay in full for any additional inspections and "recommended service" items. They only sell these oil change package so cheap to get you in the door repeatedly so they can fleece you.

It's very important to the dealer to establish themselves as the service department for your car. They want to build a relationship with you ASAP so you continue going there for service. They know that once someone goes there for initial service, they are likely to continue going, even if it's more expensive.

the oil change is actually at a great deal, that is way way way below cost for that service. They do do a quality control check when the car comes in, its called PDI. However after actually driving it for a month, generally 800-1000 miles there may be things that develop considering cars come in with 7-9 miles on them. Yes it is trying to get customer retention, but by no means does it bind someone to that dealership for service, which technically is not the big ticket item they are looking for, they want your car for warranty repairs that cost nothing to the owner but is guaranteed profit and labor for the dealership.

The dealer I bought my wifes car at provides lifetime oil changes for free, no catches. I never paid a dime for the maintenance packages but they gladly changed the oil every 3 months/3750 miles. I only stopped going there because it got inconvenient once I stopped working down the street.

The salesman even said they have an original 1986 Acura Legend they sold still coming in for the free oil changes.
