Help Passing Inspection!

lets say you get in an accident and the drivers airbag deploys, and you have the airbag control module reset to delete the crash codes but you dont replace the airbag, will the airbag light on the dash go away or will it come back solid? or will it be blinking? my buddy bought his car back from the insurance but in order to pass the chp inspection the airbag light has to be off so he doesnt know what to do. Thanks

Tell him to replace the air bags. Once an airbag deploys, the resistance across the wires will change. Even if you reset the sensor, it will know that the airbag had deployed.

he just needs the light to be off for the chp inspection they have here in cali. That way he can salvage his car and buy the airbags at a later time. So with the reset would the light be solid or flashing?

Read my post, I answered your question already. You can reset the airbag sensor or even buy a new one, but it doesnt matter. If there is an deployed airbag, the sensor will know about it. Whenever the car starts up, the airbag sensor looks for all the airbags and measures the resistance across the airbag. If the resistance is changed, it knows that the airbags have been deployed and the airbag lights will light.

thats fraud and a big suit wiating to happen if he tries to sell the car.

but once you plug in the obd3, it will read the airbag light is on. he will need to bring it to the dealer to reset it, VIN # will be marked and it has to be receipts shown they purchased an air bag that caused the lightt

If its a salvage, it should be TOWED to a point where it will be fixed until it is LEGAL and safe to operate (new airbags, reset by dealer, etc) and then he will have no problem with CHP, etc

Big difference between an innocuous civil violation like putting the front plate on with two sided tape and doing a criminal act that could endanger life and limb like this.

I didn't say it was a good idea...Won't the CHP also notice the big hole from where the airbag used to be?

AHAHAHAH I was thinking the same thing! How will that go at inspection?

"Well looks like the airbag light is off, although there is a big hole in the steering wheel were the airbag should be, buuuuuuuut since the light is off it passes!"
