Rust spots on the trunk

2010 G37x, bought it brand new and it hasn't been 3 months. I only have 2500 km on the car and several (5~6) rust spots started to appear on the rear trunk already on the same surface as the emblem. At the beginning of the winter, I even applied sealant so the rust must be coming out from the inside.

$50,000 CAD car rusted in 3 months. That's pathetic...

I'm going to ask them to replace the trunk, I don't want it repainted because they likely won't apply the self-healing clear coat. Anyone else experienced this before?

I think it might not be the rust. It's just something from the road. You need to apply pressure to get it out. I got those once in awhile.

Your car does not have self healing paint. Only 2009 and 2011 models have self healing paint. 2010 models did NOT receive self healing paint.

Just take it to the dealer. You have a corrosion warranty on the car.

Corosion warranty only applies if there's complete perforation of the metal. In other words, you literally need to have a hole in the body panel due to rust before it'll be covered.

The trunk is supposed to be made of aluminum. You sure it's rust?

Try clay barring it. If that doesn't work take it to a professional detailer.

Just noticed the same on my trunk this week after I washed it.I assumed the same and thought that the car had been in an accident and the dealer hid it from me.
I took it to a body shop which is owned by a buddy, and he assured me that it was surface rust from road grit which accumulates in the winter.
He said to use a mild polish and the spots should come right off.

Take a deep breath now...

Thanks for the input

Whatever it is, it's already created tiny bumps on the surface. A couple already has tiny cracks on it but some don't. I'll take it in next week and see what they say.

Are you sure it doesn't have the special clear coat? I thought all Infinitis do...

Either way, they couldn't even put the splash guards on to fit properly, what's the chance of them painting the trunk properly and then putting the emblem and letters back on all lined up properly?

I'll see if I can a few good pictures tomorrow, likely will be hard with the point & shoot camera...

I Call.......

Smells like a troll.........

If your trunk really is rusting take it to the dealer, the 4 year 60,000 mile BASIC WARRANTY will cover it. The corrosion warranty coverage would start once your basic warranty has expired.

Look at your own post count, ONE, before you call other a troll.

These pictures aren't mind but they look similar to my condition, funny thing is they're both silver and mine is also a silver. One difference is the rust spots on mine aren't on the edges.

I must say that according to the pictures that is definitely rust. Pretty bad coming from a luxury make like Infiniti. Embarrassing I don't even think Kia and Hyundai cars rust anymore these days. Has the car been in an accident?

Two rust spots on my trunk too! Also a 2010 silver X. One on an edge and one not. They cleaned right up, but I can see a small pit where they were. The rear sonar sensors are often covered in snow and/or road sludge. I don't know how, but somehow stuff is flying up on the rear bumper and also must be pitting the paint an the trunk. I wonder if it's just silver paint or if other colours have the same problem but just don't show up as easily.
