Brake and Gas Pedal too close?

I am in the drive thru lane last week and proceed to the window. When I move my foot from gas pedal to brake my boot (size 11) catches the edge of the gas pedal at the same time. Car lurks forward past the window about 10 feet. Had to put her in R to get back to window (embarassing). Anybody else had this problem? Isn't there supposed to be a brake override? Or is that just at certain speeds?

Not trying to be funny but you should try public transportation or just ride a bicycle. I've never heard of any such brake override.

I haven't had the problem of them being too close. I only have a size 10 shoe though, and really only wear dress shoes or tennis shoes. If anything, there are times that I feel they are too far apart, but are better on my coupe than my sedan. Then again...I like pedals being very close. Maybe just a sense of what you are used to? What car did you come from?

BTW...super embarrasing moment...just be glad there was nobody in front of you!

I wear size 11 shoes and never had this issue; since I own a 6MT, I do a lot of heel and toe shifting which requires touching the brake and gas simultaneously.

You are probably correct IvoryG. I traded in a 2009 Honda Accord coupe 6MT. The brake pedal on it was about half the size of the current G pedal. All of my previous vehicles (6 of them) have had manual trannies. I am probably not used to the placement of the pedals.

And yes, no other cars in the lane. I think I got a crazed look from the employee at the window though.

I always remind my wife to put it in "P" because I know eventually she will do something like that accidentally. I used to drive a manual and I always shift to "N" just in case.

I have size 12 feet and no problems. Only thing I can think of is that the pedals seem to be shifted a little to the left of any other car I've driven, so maybe you were on the right edge of the brake pedal and kind of rolled onto the gas?

You're probably stepping on the corner edge of the brake pedal. It happen a few time in my suzuki but it's an easy mental fix. Step on the whole brake pedal and you won't have this problem.

^ same deal here. although not the best setup, the 6MT does allow for heel-n-toe shifting. i would not want the pedals any further apart!
