Dilemma about questionable/sleazy dealership behavior

Hello everyone,

New member here just for this issue. My parents picked up a leased g37 this week. I checked it out, and we all agree it's a beautiful, great car. But the moment I sat in it, I was really unimpressed with the wood trim. The fit and finish was poor and it was obviously fake. It looks like instead of factory installed wood trim, the dealership used fake wood appliques over the original aluminum.

Has this happened to anybody else? What can I do to sort this out? I haven't even told my parents about this since I didn't want to **** on their parade.

Here are some pics: 1 2 3 4 5 so you can admire the handiwork.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

It's this year's model, a brand new 2011 g37x.

Then we're in agreement. Is this in the Infiniti corporate playbook or what? What kind of an operation are they running there? Can I complain to somebody? What can I do?

Wow. Judging from pictures 3 and 5, it definitely looks like it was just plastered over the brushed aluminum. I don't know if there's anything you can do about it though, since your parents have already signed the lease agreement papers. Or are you saying your parents purchased a previously leased G37? Either way, you could always ask the dealership to try to remove the faux wood trim, though you can bet they'll charge for labor.

It might not be sleazy behavior at all. Agreed that it looks like hell, but your parents chose the car and took delivery with it looking like that. Take a look at the window sticker. If there's a dealer sticker on there outlining the add-on cost of the aftermarket crap, then it's buyer beware. If the sticker shows OEM (which I doubt), then they've done something wrong.

If this isn't your car and your parents are happy with the appearance, then why make waves?

The good news is that it can probably be removed pretty easily if your parents ever tire of it.

IMHO, it is a dealer applied venier, not "factory". What did the window sticker say?

Thanks for the replies. The window sticker specifies aluminum trim. I guess my folks got hustled. Ah well.

There will be an "add-on" dealer sticker for the wood trim. They didn't do it for free.

Shouldn't be hard to take it off if you get tired of it.

You will love the car.

My guess is that there is something with the washi trim that is jacked up which you will only see when you take off the wood stickers. Otherwise...why would the dealer have applied them to a brand new car?

The sticker has no add-ons, but it does have the all important asterisk that says that it doesn't include dealer installed options.

Well, if my folks ever tell me that they're sick of wood, I'll be sure to tell them I can "install" aluminum.

Edit: This is actually their second or third Infiniti, and they've all had wood, and I guess they like wood. They have respect for wood. I guess the dealer wanted to move the car, so he just slapped on the wood to make the deal.

that is definitely a sticker over the aluminum trim. My friend has a G37 Sedan with the wood trim and it looks way better than that.

Aha I'm seeing it now...they had the car, your parents wanted wood, so they made a quick switcheroo in the back to get the sale.
