Correct!
In the real world, M30d (diesel) will get a way better mileage than M35h

If you realy want a car that will surely get 50 MPG on highway, buy a VW Golf TDI.

It's just too bad the US hasn't really adopted diesel technology like Europe has. The TDI Golf and Jettas are great and they definitely return real world mileage.

Blame high sulphur diesels and the horrible experience many people had in the 1970s and 1980s when the Big 3 tried to make diesel engines.

I agree that hybrids are worthless when used for this purpose (to increase gas mileage on +4000lbs cars). BUT, if it were used to increase performance, I can see hybrids as being AWESOME.

Personally, for big cars there should be no ECO mode or anything like that. The hybrid powertrain should only be used when accelerating at speeds below 50mph or so, when the instanaeous torque is most beneficial. This M35h may do 0-60mph in "under 6 seconds", but imagine if they made an G37h that did it in 4.3 seconds? Furthermore, since the most gas is used during acceleration, city numbers would be very close to highway numbers. I don't need 35mpg highway and 20mpg city. I'd much rather have 25/25.
