Acceleration when braking???

So today I was driving on the freeway and when I was braking while going around 60-70 mph, I saw the engine rev up to 5-6000rpm. I heard the engine revving too, but I wasn't sure if the car itself was accelerating because it was during the time when the car was slowing down. Throughout this whole time, my foot has been on the brake.

Is this normal, or should I have the car checked??

If you were in 'DS' mode it's very normal. The AT will try it's best to keep the engine in its power band.

I have had this happen in 'D' during emergency braking, but it didn't have time really to jump to 5k.

Something else that seems to be common is the right side of your foot may press down on the gas pedal when you are pressing on the brake hard. In my old 03 Coupe, it used to happen relatively frequently, but when you pressed the gas AND the brake in that car, it cut the throttle 100%. In my '10 G37, it doesn't cut the throttle like my old one did (maybe because my '03 was a 6MT?), but I also haven't hit the gas pedal with the ride side of my foot.

unless you are toe/heel shifting, this should never happen. unless of course you have feet that are as wide as they are long lol

Well, in was a pretty common thing in my 2003 G35 Coupe 6MT. I have a size 11 foot, but if you stepped on the left side of the pedal with the ball of your foot, you could easily heel/toe and also if you weren't paying attention, you could hit the gas pedal without even bending your foot over (if you were braking hard enough).

Have you ever driven a previous generation coupe with a 6MT?

Hmm, must not have happened then.

I've had it happen to me at HPDE events and on the street with regular shoes on. You must have skinny feet then or don't press your brake pedal hard enough

haha well I don't jam the brake as hard as I can...b/w engine braking and just using enough pressure on the brake, you don't really ever have to slam the brake as hard as possible uness its an emergency
