Drifting session in the G
I was driving home from work last night, and the roads were a bit wet since it just rained. I was getting of the highway, and the exit ramp was curved and very narrow. I cought a very nice, professional looking drift. The problem is, I WASN'T TRYING TO DRIFT!!! I was a bit tired and sleepy after working all day, but that drift sure woke me up, almost **** my pants
.
I know that the AWD system on the G is not as good as quattro on the audis or 4mattic on the MBs, but come on, it wasn't even raining anymore.
I suppose the key is not to get too over-confident because bad weather is bad weather no matter what u drive.

Well first off you have to realize that the G AWD system is not like a wrx or evo. So its handleing is not up to par with those kind of cars. However you also have to realize that even though its not raining doesnt mean your not going to slide out. Im glad to hear everything is ok and you came out on top. Our rear ends like to get loose ill say that much.
Also I would say your drifting "ability" is MUCH more dependent on your tires than your AWD (on the G at least). And yes, the G's @ss loves to swing wide.
A misconception some people have is that you can't slide unless the road is totally covered in water...it is actually easier to slide when there is a very small amount of water on the road than when there is a large amount.

I got the AWD specifically so that the car won't slide out. When I was picking it up from the dealership, they pulled the car from under a mountain of snow. The tech sat in it, pressed the gas and the tires just kicked away all the snow, and he pulled out. Kind of reminded me of how a dog shakes himself off after a getting wet. It looked very impressive, and on the ride back from the dealership I had no trouble carving corners through all the snow and slush.
Yesterday I probably just got a bit too comfortable and let my guard down. Shouldn't.

^ Yes. I'm leasing the car, so I can't go swaping everything. But if I do want to switch in the future, I will probably get the 19's from the S coupe along with the tires. Maybe someday.
Truth be told, if a bend is slick enough it doesn't matter what kind of system drives your wheels, you WILL slide out if you're going fast enough.
Kudos to you that you kept it on the road and looked good in the process :P
Stratos.-

It was late and I was kinda tired. I was driving all mellowed out, when all of a sudden
RSA is a hideous tire. I remember reading that there have been recalls on that tire in the past. I'm surprised Infiniti sells their cars with the RSA from the factory when there are less expensive tires out there that perform much better.
I called Infiniti after I bought the car and complained about their wet handling. They swapped out the RSAs with the Michelin Primacy MXV4 free of charge. What a huge difference.
