Car Scraped!! Need Help!
Car Scraped!! Need Help!
Hey,
So, today my car got scraped on wal-mart parking lot. I was just in there to get a sandwich when this happened. Luckily it wasn't a hit and run. The people is the parking lot was very helpful and told me the lady that hit me was looking for me. I found her pretty quick and I called the cops for a police report. The cop that came was a newbie cop, he is only 21 and it might be his first accident report. After about 30 min he said it looks like the damage was under $1000 and just have us exchange infomation. And he wrote of her paper that says my car was a pontiac!! But luckily he at least got a licence plate write so it should be fine.
The problem is it look like the damage is more then $1000. Driver side of the rear bumper is scratched and you can see the black plastic underneath. So the bumper needs to be replaced and with labor it can easily go over $500 and also the driver side rear fender is dented and scratched all the way from the contact with the bumper to the wheel well. The height of the scratch is about 6 inches. That can easily cost over $500. So hopefully a proper accident report was written.
So tomorrow I will do to my insurance and talk with them and they will probably ask me to take it to a repair shop for a qoute.
My question to you guys is what repair shop should I take it too? Can any repair shop put on the Nissan's Scratch Shield? I live in a town with 11k population, I think the repair shop here are specialize in nothing but cheap american cars. I have a Nissan dealer 1 hour away and a Infiniti dealer 3 hours away. Where should I take it too? I rather it be as less hassle as possible but also the quality of the job is important as well.
Thansk in advance for your input!

lol he said a pontiac! come to think of it, your G does look a little like the Pontiac Aztec...
i guess the bright side is she fessed up to it. i dont think you can replicate the scratch shield paint, but i may be wrong.
when i go to wal-mart (and it's never for a sandwich, mind you) i park far, far away from all the hooligans. same goes for target.

Can you post some photo? Let's c some pictures.
Insurance company normally don't care which shop you take it for repair. You don't necessary have to take it dealership either. Many dealerships have their own body shop and it can be convenient to take it to them for repair.
My suggestion would be talk to some folks who had their car repaired and take it over there where they had good service and repair.

I have progressive but it goes through a local middle man insurance company. From my pass experiences with them they told me to take my car to any repair shop and get a quote. They then submit the quote to the actual company and they will debate about the quote with the repair shop and a few weeks later I would get a check for the repair.
I only got my 3.2MP phone camera on me and it also dark outside so the quality isn't that great. Its hard to see the depth and also the other small details.

If it's not your fault and your insurance can't help, call the lady that hit you 's insurance provider and deal with them directly. They will send a claims adjuster to your place and give you a quote. But before that, go to few local body shops and get the quotes by yourself so you can compare.
I did that last time, I had the adjuster go to the most expensive shop with me. After we both agree on the price, I ask them to send me the check directly. Pay the body shops $50 for their time then take it to my buddy's place. I made more than $1k.
rear quarter-panel + rear bumper. $1500 where I live. But since you live in a small town, labor might be cheaper.

IMO, don't go to the girl's body shop. They will try to cut cost as much as possible.
That sucks! Had my car hit in a parking lot also. What's with these people? I called by dealer and they gave me the name of the shop that they work with. On the advice of the body shop I had the repair done through my insurance. I have AAA insurance and he said they are very easy to work with. I would get a factory bumper cover and the claims paid quickly. Then my insurance would go after the at fault driver's insurance to get reimbursed. I did not have to pay the deductable because it was not my fault. A week after the accident I had my car back looking as good as new. Hope this helps you.
Agreed on that. Go to somebody who will be working for *you*, not somebody who will likely be looking out for the girl's best interests.
Don't show that to the adjuster. If the insurance adjuster gives you higher quote, take it.Like hufington said, most dealers send the car to the body shop, let them fix it then charge you extra. Don't let them rip you off.
