How does Mercedes pull it off, yet we cant in your X's?
I know this questions has been rasied a million times and we have concluded we should not run a staggered set-up on an all-wheel drive G37.
Well I was over at my parents house last night, and my mom owns a C300 4matic and she had to get new tires. I just looked at the front tire and it says 225/45/17. I figured they would all be the same since it is all-wheel drive as well, but the backs come with 245/45/17. (these are the OEM tires that came when she bought it new).
Shouldnt this mess with the all-wheel drive system, or do you think MB is running the same width rim in the back, just a wider tire?

I've wondered about this too (caveat: I haven't done any research, I'm just thinking out loud). I'm not sure what appreciable difference a staggered setup would make to an AWD vehicle. The only thing I can think of is that a staggered setup would result in different levels of grip between the front and the back, which is something the traction/VDC/difflock software might have to take into account?
I think it's also easier for people to be able to rotate tires as an option. Also the Mercedes Benz AWD 4matic used to only give 30% power up front and 70% rear fixed vs the ATTESSA-AWD giving up to a 50/50 ratio at some points

Ever see the monstrous stagger on a Lamborghini Gallardo or Murcielago? Those are both 4WD and as has been said stagger is not the problem. Some people have put aftermarket wheels and tires on these Lambos, messing with the diameters front to back and have blown the differentials.
technically...the most IMPORTANT part is that the front and rear diameters are the same size, that will cause major drivetrain problems.
in terms of staggered set ups, most AWD systems are fixed 30/70....ours is one of the few that are dynamic and change ratios.
When companies release their cars with a staggered set up, they've made sure that its been tested and beaten to death...and have written software to accommodate the staggered system. Its possible that Infiniti doesnt want to make software adjustments, and cant program their software to dynamically adjust and take the staggered set up into its accommodations.
now im not saying staggered on our cars will screw up the system, there are people running it fine....its just a chance to take
