Buying an ex-rental G37 sedan - bad idea?
hey guys, thx for the input
so there's 2009 G37 journey with 20k miles, no options except moonroof (this is weak, doesnt even have premium pkg - no heated seats!!), ex-rental for $20,000. is this a great deal?

IMO, you're paying 2/3 the price for 2/3 the warranty, and a hell of a car.
Depending on the production, you may be able to add the seats for the price of some switches and labor; it may be pre-wired.

I'll say it again, I really think it's worth it to save until you can afford either a non-rental used G or a new one. I would never, ever buy a rental used-car...but take that as you will.
For the same money, I would rather by the same car with slightly higher milage (30-40K miles) but for it to be a one owner car and not ex rental car
I don't think it's easy to find a 2009 w/ 30-40k for 20k. Very few people will put 40k miles in one year. It's easier to find a '07 or '08 w/ 30-40k for 20K+.
The point I'm trying to make is - sacrifice something, whether it's milage, production year, options, whever it takes. As long as you can find a G that's in your budget which is not a rental.
I get a rental car for every oil change/maint/ect. I beat the heck out of the car... Even though they have 1/4 the miles mine does, they drive horribly. The transmissions in these rentals have a lot of 'play', steering seems rough, ect.
No way would I touch a rental car. Even a leased car, Id look at very carefully before buying.
BUT if you find one that seems solid (get it looked at by a knowledgeable independent mechanic), you can get a GREAT deal on it. Just be careful

You can bet that a rental car has been treated far better for most of its life than the majority of cars owned by members of this forum. I'd take the rental car over 8/10 of forum members cars if I were buying used. Except Chekov's.
Go Ahead
I bought my 2009 G37 used at 7K miles. Previously owned by Enterprise Rental Car. Dealer backed up the warranty to 67K. I have 18K on it now and I just past one year of ownership. My only trip to the dealer was for AT harsh downshift which was resolved with firmware change. Other than that, it has run perfectly

Rental cars are a bad idea. I bought one (unknowingly) in the early 90s, and had nothing but problems with that POS. The dealer I purchased from neglected to mention that it was a rental auction car.
I ended up getting my G because I rented a 2009 last year for a work trip. It was a fun car, and I drove it like it was a rental. I haven't had nearly that much fun with my 2010, because it's mine and I don't want to beat the crap out of it.

I rented a g37 sedan from enterprise. at 6k miles, CEL light was on, Tires had low tread, scuff marks galore, Needed an oil change and the guy told me dont worry about after i put in 2k miles. (was durring my g37 coupe repairs). Who knows what that car went through. In short, I would never buy one.
I would say don't do it,but I travel a lot and I drive those car like I drive mine .Not every body does it ,but all of my co workers treat the cars nicely, plus that kind of car is mainly rented in air ports and is a premium car so, it is more expensive, and Most of the people that would rent that car would be business people.
