Infiniti's 40k luxo-sport coupe is gioing to get killed on a regular basis by 22-23k base Mustangs because Infiniti couldn't come up with some decent torque. 20 more ft lbs would have made a huge difference, I think.
I have a 2011 Mustang thread where I said exactly that. On G35driver.com when I was 306HP, I told them sometime last year that the '11 Mustang will be making sweet love to our Gs and I was laughed at, LOL. Oh well, 3 more years of the '10 G37 and I am out. The game has changed, 0-60 in 5.X has gone economy

I think it's great that the new Mustang is going to be fast with good fuel economy. Every time a car manufacturer improves, other companies follow suit to remain competitive. It's amazing that technology (direct injection, etc.) is allowing horsepower wars to continue despite expensive fuel costs.

Keep in mind, though, that the Mustang isn't trying to compete with the G37. Most people aren't cross shopping the two before buying. The Mustang is trying to compete with the Camaro and the Challenger, which are big bloated pigs compared to the Mustang, IMO.

Eletric cars will be the norm within the next 10-15 years, and they put down enormous torque numbers. All the "car guys" flipping out about electric cars will be the first in line when they become affordable and run the 1/4 mile in the low 13s.

I would rather take a sledgehammer to my face than drive an electric car. I don't care how fast it is, it will never have the soul of a great IC engine...

I know I will be. Once they start producing them with ranges over 50 - 100 miles.

Let's enjoy the power of (all of) these high performance vehicles while we can. In a few short years, the "Infiniti" version of the Versa with all-wheel drive and a larger turbo will be all the rage! For now, my G37x will leave the 2011 'Stang at the lights for 6 months of the year anyway given our cold weather, snow and ice etc. Speaking of which, I'm taking my snows off today. Let the real fun begin!
