I've drove back and forth between Portland and SF last summer about 4 times but only once in the G (This was the most fun I ever had driving!). It's anywhere from 9-11 hour drive depending on stops and how fast you going. I always keep a flashlight, bottled water, and blankets & pillows on me.

Main advice I'd like to give is don't push yourself if your feeling tired, just find a hotel or rest area to chill for a minute. And travel with someone if you can, it's just more fun and safer also.

Not sure if your a 2nd Amendment person but this is another thing I always bring with me for long drives. I'm registered, licensed, done proper training at the range and have a CCW permit. I keep the piece locked in the glovebox unloaded and the clips in the center console.

Forgot to add don't follow those big rigs too close also! They throw soo much crap at you if your behind them, especially now since most interstate hwys have been treated with sand or whatever they put on the highways when there's snow.

Unless you have a clearbra I guess?

After a few week-long "excursions" in the US, I can definintely agree that you need some sort of protection on your bumper.... at the end of the leas on my 05 Altima SE-R the front bumper was all wrecked up and ugly.... that's why I'm rocking a clearbra on my 09 STI now.

Yeah if you got a clear bra then you would be fine. Maybe consider doing the side mirrors and rockers too just to be safe.

Do you have to do the drive all in one day? I'd split a drive like that into two six hour drives if I could, six hours I can do fine, 8 is tolerable for me. More then that I want out of the car or else though.

Maybe every couple hours, even if you feel fine stop to stretch your legs, take a 5 to 10 minute break at a rest stop or gas station or something, just walk around. I don't always do that, but I find after a long drive I'm in a bit better mood if I do let myself stop every two to three hours, even if I just get out, walk around the car sipping some water and then get back in.

tape front bumper, get Rain-x on windows, check windshield wipers, keep some clothes out, toothbrush etc, rent a uhaul (if money permits) and take a friend that way, snacks, waters, flashlights, roadside assistance number handy, gloves in case you need to change a tire, maybe a flare, lots of sleep night before. Audio books.

dad and I just did a 20 hour drive from Ca to Seattle. We switched off, but I did about 12 to his 8. Legs were tired.

If you tape the bumper with blue painter's tape, all ricers on the roads want to race with you. I'm 1000000% sure.

Make sure you have your cold weather clothes/boots where you can get to them and maybe a blanket up front somewhere. You'll be heading into cold weather territory and it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

1)Reconsider moving to Detroit.
2)Go visit your local favorite restaurants which may not be available up there
3)Clean inside windshield
4)Fill up gas tank
5)Once arrived at your destination stop by BIG BOY restaurant and have a good meal

Come on man, don't be so harsh. But yeah, I would probably move if all my family and wife's family was not here. If you are a single dude, I would consider getting an apartment in Royal Oak or Birmingham.

I was born and rasied in Detroit, so I am well aware of what I am getting myself back into. Moved to atlanta about 2 years ago, now moving back!

I am debating if I will make it a 2 day trip. We shall see how the roads are/how tired I get. I am not going to fight sleep when on the road, I much rather get a hotel room for the night and get to Detroit safe!

Thanks everyone for the tips. Hopefully I will not have to get to my spare, cause that is going to be a real pain to empty the trunk on the side of the freeway!!!

Well.. hate to lose a G user in Atlanta, but I guess sometimes u gonna do what you gonna do. Drive safe. Why u need to get spare, if it's too dangerous call infiniti road side assistance depending on where you at.

One more thing, once you get back, you can try your luck by going to Casino across the border in your new G in style.

There are 3 casino's now in Detroit as well, no need to cross over to Canada anymore!

Yea I would prob be a wuss and call Infiniti Roadside if something happens. I changed a tire once on the freeway, and I was freaked out the entire time! LOL

Load up on house/trance music. A State of Trance episodes by Armin Van Buuren are good.

I take long trips from Fl to PA or vice-versa every year. Of course, I have my wife along who drives about 10% of the time and listens to my wisdom on the trip. We found that taking along an interesting audio book is the best way of making the time fly.

I have an ironclad rule of stopping after 3 hours the first time and every two hous thereafter. Bathroom break whether you need it or not!!!
