"Service Engine Soon" - AHHH, what am I doing wrong?
I purchased my G37 on Wednesday afternoon. Right now, there are about 290 miles on my car. This morning, I drove about 100 miles to another town (and this afternoon another 100 miles back, so 200 miles round trip). When I got to my destination and turned my car back on, I noticed the "Service Engine Soon" light was on. Why???
I have screwed on the gas cap and also tried topping the gas back off with a full tank and screwing it on again. After driving another 100 miles (the way back from my first destination), the light is still on. Any clue? This is really frustrating given that this is a brand new car. I don't know whether to be concerned or what. The manual is not much help.

You can set the maintenace interval. I think it is under "maintenance", but not 100% sure where.....but know it is in there as my salesman and I set it when we were going over the car.
Just went and checked and it is under Info and then Maintenance.

I'm going to give it a few days until my plates come in, but this really hacks me off. I've loved driving it, I just don't know what the problem is. I'm scared to drive it too much more without knowing.

Are you talking about the maintenance interval on the computer display (where the radio is) or the steering wheel console? There are two places that you can set maintenance intervals.

The center console / computer display. When I picked mine up, someone had set the first interval at 250 miles. Maybe they did that to you. You can reset the mileage and then set the interval from current mileage in 250 mile increments. Take a quick look and see if that is it. If not, then agree to the dealer. Just hate to see you go to the dealer if that is all it is.

Unfortunately, that's set to 6000 miles, so that's not it. I'll check the other place too (the steering wheel console has a maintenance interval), but I'm 99% sure that's set at 3k+ miles.

BTW: Congrats on the car

As the manual indicates the Service Engine Soon MIL (Not the maintenance reminder BTW) comes on when steady indicating a potential emission system problem or may be related to a loose gas cap. If it's the gas cap it should reset itself after several trips (ignition cycles). Did the light come on shortly after you gassed up?

It came on after I ha driven about 100 miles. So I tightened the gas cap. No luck, so I drove around a little more and then gassed up so I had another reason to tighten the gas cap. After driving another 60-70 miles it's still on. I'm hoping the
deAlership will come pick up the car to check it out.

Mine was on two weeks ago. It went off after 2 trips to the gas station and about five days. I had setup an appointment with the dealer. It was for a week out from when I called. They were in no hurry, since it wasn't really affecting the performance of the car. It ended up clearing before the date came, so I cancelled it.

Don't wait. It took nearly a month for my plates to come in. Make an appointment ASAP. If it hasn't gone off by now with all the miles you've driven since checking the cap, I doubt it's the gas cap. Don't clear the light either. The technician is going to need it on to see what the problem is.
