Dealer PDI before taking delivery

Our new car should be in port and under PDI in the next couple of days. The sales person keeps using the term "detailed" when referring to cleaning up the car before we get it. I'm of the camp that never let's the dealer wash my cars when going in for service but I think letting do "their thing" on a new car should be fine, except when they use the term "detailed". To me that means buffing ect....

This dealer chain sells a lot of high end cars (BMW and Infiniti) so I should leave them alone but I'm tempted to ask them to not buff or anything. Perhaps it's just the sales persons term and not reality....

Any thoughts? should ask them to clarify no buffing?
I assume they know how to peel the plastic off & wash a new car?

It's straight off the boat in the next few days

There's protective film on the car during the transportation, it's too much hassle to DIY imo.

I wasn't going to do this myself... I was just worried they would over do it with the buffer. I think I should assume they know what they are doing. But shouldn't just a wash after peeling do the trick?

They usually do a good job on delivery because they want you to provide them with excellent feedback at review time.

I let them detail it on delivery and then never let them touch it again (other than warranty work). I will also do my own oil changes on my G. However, I let Honda change the oil and wash the car on our Ody because my kids destroy that car.

My dealer said they even waxed my G. They must have because it beads up in the rain pretty good and the paint felt very smooth on delivery. On the other hand my dealer also said the filled the tank with 93 octane and I know they didn't. My G pinged on the first tank of gas. As soon I switched to 93 octane, the engine detonation was gone.

Dont stress - I am sure the salesperson is using ther term "detailing" to sound very impressive and to have you think that you are receiving something very special. The reality is, Infiniti has an excellent PDI program and your car will look great when delivered to you.

Upon going to the dealership for pick up, you should always perform a thorough inspection and if you are unhappy simpy communicate your concers and the dealership will gladly resolve them.

Good luck & congrats on your new ride!

Thanks guys. I do tend to over-stress the small stuff...

1 more week I think.

it's like me asking the pizza guy to watch him make the dough from scratch and make sure he washed his hands.

dont stress over it. i'm sure they'll be fine. it's part of the customer satisfaction the salesperson checks over the car to make sure it's flawless before you get there!

Our car is now off the boat and being readied for delivery on monday!!!

I'm pumped.

Any suggestions on things to inspect & check out before taking delivery?
I plan to:
- take it for a test drive before handing over my check (I'll be making sure there's no rattles/squeaks),

- listen for the ECU high freq noise (that I didn't hear on the demo car). I will also take my kids with me to listen as well.

- inspect for paint chips ect...

- check that the steering wheel column is straight (one guy's steering column wasn't straight and it's a bitch to fix if it's even possible).

Anything else you guys can think of?
