1 month review of G37xS
So it's been exactly a month today that I picked up my new G37xS. I have decided to write my own review:
From the moment I signed the last piece of legal paper and was given the keys I couldn't help but feel that I am getting myself into something special. That warm feeling u get when u know that u hv done something right or made the right decision? This is how I feel. And up to now I still get it every time I step inside the car.
Appearance wise this car is nothing special the first time you look at it. But little by little you begin to notice and appreciate the design. It's aggressive without being flashy as an A4 with the led lights and huge grill. It's design gives it a well balance and zen like look. And over time, I am sure it will age gracefully. The only disappointment here is the choice of rims ( I'm talking about the 18") which looks like some sort of medievil torture device. Why Infiniti, why?
Interior is well layed out. The front passenger area is tight. But this is a good thing in my opinion since everything is within reach and gives a feeling of a well tailored suit or cockpit. Fit and materials are way better than the last gen. Every button/control is where it should be. No more no less. It has a very welcoming design as oppose to the more cold and distant feeling one gets from a bahaus design of its German competitor. Stereo is good for a car in this price range. Nice and clear quality. Of course there are better systems out there but I am not sure that I'm willing to spend that much money for mediocre improvement.
Finally the performance...this thing is sedated when u want it to be but once it is in DS mode and the pedal is pushed aggressvisely, there's no telling that it is a sedan! It feels like a geniune sports car first and luxury sedan second with a bit of European flavour added. The exhaust note is very seducing for a sedan. Just how I like it. However the initial throttle response could be a little bit better (even in DS mode). My other gripe is that Infiniti did not include the sports tune-suspension and brakes on the xS model. Just because we X owners want the added benefits of awd for snowy weather conditions does not mean we are a boring bunch! Hopefully Infiniti will add this option for the new model year. That will certainly rival the STi or Evo. OK, maybe not. But you get the point.
It's been a month now and so far everything is still peachy. I have found myself driving this car at 2:00am sometimes for no apparent reason other than the fact that it cures my adrenaline crave. All in all a near perfect machine with tremendous value and character. Oh, btw did I mention my previous cars were a 330i and a G35 Coupe? Definately not missing them
...well maybe the coupe. But just a little.

Great review .. we have an 2k8 M35, 2k6 G35x, 2k8 G35x (x 2 of 'em) and my '09 G37xS and you know you're preachin' to the choir with me... but i agree it's a great car.
My additional review is that it's not a refined (engine noise and tranny) as my outgoing 2k4 TL-S (5AT) but it's got sport car moves and tons of grunt low-end that really whip the shizzle outta my old TL and that's very fun.
the 7AT is a JOY for me on the highway compared to my wife's 5AT G35x as I just personally feel it optimizes the torque band on this car and gets ya moving no matter what speed without waiting for that power "swell" to "boot up"
Handling is not as tight as my Aspec TL .. but it's more supple and forgiving yet doesn't give me a bouncy ride .. it's well mannered for the most part in all parts of my drive... I can't dive into turns as well as I did with my TL, but it definitely has it's advantages w/ the RWD/AWD push out of the turn which I sorely missed in the TL.
The ergonomics and interior are still growing on me .. i felt a bit more at home in my TL and felt it was a bit more personal, but I'm digging the navi, the rearview cam, and the GUI in this car -- sorely missed in my TL.
I am not a fan of the fact that the volume **** and the Climate control **** are the same color, texture, and size .. i frequently find myself trying to dial up the volume (i don't always use the steering wheel) and i'm just increasing the temp -- I wish there was a tactile difference b/w these two *****... oh well -- i'm sure i'll get used to it.
yeah... i miss my 18" Aspec rims... i'm a fan of the 5-spoke or 5 split spoke design .. and thought i think these rims are ok... i think they definitely could have done better -- i agree with wrxx... and they have -- look at the G37 19" rims.. look at the M45 19's and their design -- sweetness...
I'd love for some 18" rims that looked like the 19" G37S rims ...
I agree that there should be an option to add the sport suspension and brake package from the real "sport" G37S ...
Oh.. and I LOVE the sport seats ... now I know what i've been missing all these years...
--> where's the tilt rear view mirror and where's the heated steering wheel infiniti??

^^^Good driving dynamics comparison.
But for those who care here are my driving inputs on the GxS:
As mentioned earlier there's a lack of initial throttle response. But that's probably due to it's weight. But once the car gets going there's plenty of surge power. This car is an absolute thrill on the hwy. Effortless is what I would describe it. The 7AT really try to do it's best given the car's weight penalty. Downshifts are smooth but not as quick as VW's DSG. Also there's a bit of engine breaking feel once it is around 20-30mph slowing down. But its not as bad as most ppl complain about. Or maybe I am just lucky. Handling is decent. Not great mind you. There's still some last minute body roll and steering feel vagueness coming into a curve. But then again I did not hv the sports suspension. I find the stock suspension to be a compromise between daily driving with a bit of sportiness. Which is why it would be nice to hv the option of a firmer suspension. Some ppl may find the engine not as refined but I believe it was Infiniti's intention. They want to differentiate themselves from BMW a little bit. Otherwise they will just be emulating. I honestly don't mind it a bit. Gives it a sporty yet distinct character.
Finally the seats. While comfy as they are, the leather is terrible! It's already wrinkly on the driver's side. I hv a suspicion that they will crack prematurely just like my G35 coupe. Also, front seats look a bit bulky. It will be nice if they can be slimmer in profile. But then again I am really nit picking.
I actually work in the automotive field. Studying journalism on the side and hopefully be a automotive journalist one day. Therefore I hv test driven a whole bunch of cars. From AMG's/M3's to Kia's lol. Sure there are better vehicles out there such as the new M3 (love it, love it!). But nothing really beats the G in terms of sheer value and driving dynamics. I like the fact that Infiniti emphasizes on sportiness first and luxury second. It seems to be the other way around with most luxury vehicles nowadays. That's why it's my ride

nice to have your input.
i really feel that cpu is just programmed differently for throttle tip in on the '08 vs. the '09 G's... my '08 G snaps off the line and i've read those who have had some TSB applied lost that tip in fervor...
for the money -- i haven't owned a 40k or less car that had leather that stood out as a clear winner (my Acura leather wrinkled early and had "butt prints" as did my Lexus ES300 as did our old '99 E320 -- thought the leather didn't crack on the benz)
