ipod question from newb :)
i just got an 09 G37. hope i dont get flamed for asking this, but through my searches, i could not yield a clear answer. if i have a 4th gen ipod nano, and i have it plugged into the ipod interface, will it turn off when i turn off the car and turn on when i toggle to the ipod option on the stereo or turn the car on? i will never remember to turn off the ipod if its not automatic.

i don't have an exact answer for you, but i have the generation just prior to this current gen nano (3rd i guess) .. and i have the latest updates for it and it still does not turn off when i shut the car off (and yes, I have sleep mode set to ON). Therefore, when i'm not in the car and the vehicle is off, my ipod is on until my battery drains in the ipod. Therefore, the next time i'm in my car, after about 20 seconds when the Infiniti has had time to charge up the ipod, whatever source i'm on will change to ipod (as if i just plugged it in) and i'll have to switch back to my previous source. Kinda annoying and I hope for your sake the 4th gen will automatically shut off with the vehicle.
Also, while in the vehicle, the ipod is always on (for me) and charging, i can't change that. The ipod does NOT get charged in the car when it's off -- therefore it does not drain the Infiniti battery.

I had the same question. I have the latest gen nano, and I believe it shows a message saying it can't charge with this connection. I did leave it in there overnight and it worked the next day though.

Your ipod should notice it is not playing and should be off. I have an ipod mini that I leave it plug in my G while the car is off. It should be playing where you left off when you start your car again.

It won with the car, but it should as stated go into standby mode after a while. Just as if you were using it outside the car. Generally the ipod will detect that it is not connected any more, pause the song it was playing and then go into sleep mode. Your battery will still drain a little though.
