I know there’s no way to for sure tell without taking everything apart , but behind the timing cover across the whole top there is a metal gasket hanging/protruding out 100% not oem I bought the car with 83k miles from a dealer but the old owner seemed to enjoy or do alot of preventative maintenance by himself.i was wondering if anyone could take any guesses on what services would need the timing cover pulled so early into its life besides gallery gaskets . Thanks ! 🙏🏽

Water pump? Would be odd for someone to spend so much time and money on this service and not promote it as part of the sale?

Metal gasket? There shouldn't be any metal gasket protruding out of the front cover as RTV is used to seal it.

There are 2 things to do:
1. Go to your local Infiniti dealer to see if they can pull the service records for you
2. Check your oil pressure. If it's within the specified range don't worry if it has been done or not.

Year of your car?
Can you snap a picture of the metal gasket in question?

This is the same car that the dealer acknowledged the bumper was replaced prior? Then, as RobC7 suggested, check the dealer as they may have some service history on the car. If you are that "concerned" then a oil pressure test will give clarity but do not go searching for rabbit holes. In other words, unless the car is experiencing issues don't look for problems that may not exist. I get wanting to know the entire history of the car but that is the nature of the beast when buying used. Just my 10¢.

what I ended up doing was getting a oil pressure kit I’m at 32 on idle without reving . But I did find a little bit of information on the car the old owner that sold it to the dealer worked and currently works at a Infiniti a couple states away and did all the services himself I ended up getting abutch of receipts for parts but nothing technically official.

So the dealer that sold you the car was able to provide receipts for parts, but it appears that the person who owned the car did all the work themselves and now works for another Infiniti dealer a few states away?

no not at all 😂 I called the Infiniti that was on the carfax for all the services 2017-2024 I bought from a used car dealer that told me absolutely 0 besides when I called today someone wrecked it during a test drive and that’s why they repainted the bumper. But the service record is weird it would say recommended maintenance done for 8-9 different services but not say what they did .
They had receipts with my vin and the guy who owned it worked there .

Feels like I'm in the 8th grade again trying to solve a word problem in math class.

Can you get a copy of the receipts? Maybe the parts on the receipts will provide a clue as to what maintenance this former employee did to the car as he may have had an arrangement with the technicians.
