Cracking Dashboard! Help
Cracking Dashboard! Help
My 2010 G37’s dashboard is cracking all over, especially around the air vents. WTF. A 13 yr old car should NOT have a cracking dashboard! Now I’m going to have to replace or repair it. Any tips from anyone else dealing with this? What is THE BEST product I can use on it to prevent it from cracking more? Is there a dashboard moisturizer? So frustrating.

Look, folks, this sticky/ cracking/ peeling dash problem is a long-standing one. There is neither rhyme nor reason why some are affected while others are not. Cheap, inferior materials were used when these dashboards were manufactured which, when combined with a variety of environmental conditions, caused the degradation.
The only fix is to either replace the dash or have yours covered. Yes, it is frustrating and aggravating, but there is no other option and definitely no recourse from Infiniti. Sure, there were a few wolves "huffing and puffing" and that yielded... nothing.
For the record, this dash issue was not solely Nissan. Toyota (and Lexus) had a similar issue with their models. What sticks in most folks' craws is that while Nissan addressed the issue (after many lawsuits/ recalls) Infiniti ignored it. Hell, even Lexus made folks right. While I never confirmed it, I always theorized that the same manufacturer (Calsonic-Kansei) manufactured these problem-laden dashboards for both Nissan and Toyota (JUST MY OPINION!).
It stinks, but "it is what it is..."

I have a 2009 G37S Journey and, just recently, at around 39K miles, it started developing "cracks" in the top layer around the air vents and one near the top of the nav display. This really surprised me, since it is garage-kept and only ever driven a few short-times a week, if that. It is only left out in the sun for several hours a month and has been in near-mint condition. The headlight lens covers, for example, are perfectly clear. I have never used harsh cleaners, and periodically applied quality protectants like 303 or Vinyl-X to the interior plastics. Very disappointing, I have loved this car for 14 years.
At least it hasn't turned sticky like the steering wheel controls plastic soft-touch crap. I replaced that myself in 2017 (with a 2013 version part) because it was driving me crazy. This problem looks to be something that is not feasibly repairable and will likely get worse. Sad.
