when you say tape you mean the inner white piece that moves correct?
I went with the clock spring company link I sent above. Nice to have 90 day warranty

Either way, when you receive the replacement, wrap a piece of tape around the clock spring to prevent it from spinning. When you are ready to install, you will first have to verify the clock spring is properly centered (neutral position) before installing it onto the column. The centering process takes all of two (2) minutes and will prevent the cable from snapping the moment the steering wheel is turned too far. Section SR (SRS Airbag) of the factory manual will have more detail but the gist of it is as follows:
My method: remove tape, center, re-apply tape, install. When you are ready to install the wheel, remove the tape and put the wheel on the shaft.
It goes without saying that the battery MUST be disconnected BEFORE working on this system.
The new unit will likely have a locking tab or other device to keep the two halves from turning. I would still wrap a small piece of tape around it like this:
just as a added precaution. Just be sure to remove when you are ready to install it for the final time.
Let us know how you make out...
EDIT: Didn't think to ask... how did the dash swap work out?

Dashboard was super smooth.... I can't figure out why i've seen some say it was difficult. As long as you tag the bolts take pictures for reassembly its pretty smooth. The only thing that made me nervous was the airbag lol. but once I got that out it was pretty cut and dry.

if the arrows match up I assume it’s ready to go?
Or is more adjusting needed? Seem to just bolt up ready to go

Looks like it is ready to go. I am sure they would not sell a unit that needed additional adjustment. Just remove the plastic clip and install the steering wheel.
Ok everything in! No airbag lights but have VDC OFF and Slip now…. What to check for?
That is probably due to you having disconnected the SAS and as a result the sensor lost its "neutral position." When you "divorced" the SAS from the clock spring, the SAS lost its alignment and is now telling the ABS unit that the wheels are turned when, in effect, they are straight.
Unfortunately, there is no way to reset it without a Nissan CONSULT3 scan tool, or equiv. You might have to take it to a dealership or qualified Nissan mechanic. Calibrating the SAS should take less than 15min. (but they'll likely charge for 1-hr. labor).

Yep! Radio controls light up and work, horn works, cruise control… no airbag lights.
all plugged in but the input on the front right of the clockspring (see pic… in the pic it’s the input on the bottom. When mounted on car it’s on the right.)

Never hurts to ask Firestone. They might have the software needed to calibrate the SAS. It literally takes all of ≈15min.
No, I meant the connector for the SAS, not the clock spring:
The FSM also says to check the 10amp fuse #45 in the IPDM/er. Easy to check, but I am confident it is a mere calibration issue because you divorced the SAS from your original clock spring.
I had it plugged in as you illustrated, was what you originally said…. Needed to be calibrated. Firestone knocked out in 10 mins. Was set 182 degrees the wrong way lol. Perfect now with no lights!
like so many my G37 coupe has the sticky cracking dashboard.
I see that it’s quite the undertaking to remove but would like to attempt since the labor price is so out of control high.
the only part that worries me is the steering wheel airbag. What is the most safest way possible to remove?
also does the passenger side airbag need to come out as well or stay in place?
Infiniti near me has the dashboard for $800 new so I feel if I can save on the labor piece it’s a worthwhile mod.
Thank you!
I know this is a couple
months old now but could you help me out with a source to find a new g37 coupe dash? Mine is sticky and cracked as well. Thanks so much!
Depending on where you are located, this place has the best price for a NEW dashboard. The prices on these jumped big time- they were ≈$850 a few months ago. I would keep a eye out as occasionally Infiniti Parts will run discount codes/ coupons.
EDIT: As of 22 May 2023, the dash pad is on sale at the above link for $931. Just tossing that out there...
