Car is not accelerating
Car is not accelerating
Hey guys,
a couple of days ago I ran out of fuel in the middle of the road, when I went to get fuel I left my car on the entire time so my battery was dead when I came back. Today I replaced the battery with a new one but when I go on the street the car is not accelerating as it used to be AT ALL. The RPM doesnt go above 2400-2600, and to add on that, the break lights are always on even when the car is off. I read something on the internet about a limp mode, would that be the case? Please help me out
Thank you

Is there a constant check engine light on? If there is,have the codes scanned. Also you could do a relearn procedure which resets your throttle bodies to the factory specs. If you google the relearn procedure our cars, you should see a few YouTube videos.

Here’s the one I’ve used.

It's just a coincidence that this happened when you ran out of gas.
Look on the floor of the drivers side and see if you can find any small pieces of broken plastic. If you do, you need to replace the plastic insert that goes in the top of your brake pedal that contacts the brake light switch(to turn the brake lamps off) when you depress the brake. Even if you don't see any plastic on the floor, make sure the insert is completely intact; if it isn't replace it.
If the insert is in good condition and still in the brake pedal you likely need a new brake light switch which is right above the plastic insert.
I've had 2 of the inserts crack and break in to pieces in the last 3 years, both times I had to rig something up in a parking lot to get the car home - If it happens again I'm going to superglue or epoxy a nickle to the top of the pedal where the insert should be.
