New guy, first post - TruHart coilovers

Hello everyone, this is my first post after purchasing a "08 Coupe Sport. I was looking for some input about the TruHart StreetPlus Coilover system on my car. When I test drove it I noticed an incredibly stiff ride which had me feeling every small bump or depression on the road.

I could see through the wheel spokes that there were some brand of coilovers but couldn't verify until I removed all 4 wheels today. At the rears, both stock springs were still in place and my question is, is that normal?

I was thinking to drop the lower control arms and pull them out. Is this an okay idea? I'm hoping if I do it will soften up the really harsh ride.

Appreciate your input and thanks in advance.

You should check out TruHart's web site for the G37/370Z coil-overs. I have never heard of a true-type coil-over that has you leave the stock spring in place like that, but that may be their recommended set-up if they use really soft rear springs. The site should indicate if the dampers are adjustable; if so, reduce the damping settings.

Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it.

Unfortunately, there aren't any documentation or pdf instructions on their website. I was surprised to see the stock springs still there because I thought the same thing that when coilovers are installed, they replace the shocks and springs. I already decided to just remove the springs, it was too easy. One lower control arm bolt and done. I dropped the car and it was really low so I just make the adjustments on the height and load at this point.

Thanks again.

Are you sure the rear springs were "stock"? The car couldn't be lowered with coilovers if the stock springs were still in place.

Technically you could but there's going to be some serious pre-load on those springs....That's probably why OP's ride is so stiff.

For comparison, the stock springs are about 14'' unloaded and in that picture, they look to be around 7-8.

OP, I'd recommend picking up a set of 8'' springs for the rear. You'll be able to retain the ride height while softening up the quality.

Measure rear spring

Okay, after removing the rear springs last night and grounding the car, the rear was fairly low but not touching anything as you can see in the picture above (After spring removed). I then measured the height of each corner.

Using a rigid measuring tape I measured from the floor centered on the wheel cap up to the center of the wheel well outer lip.

Left front: 27 3/8" Right front: 27 1/2"
Left rear: 24 1/4" Right rear: 23 7/8"

I adjusted the rears only to: Left rear: 25 7/8" Right rear: 25 5/8"

I replaced the wheels and drove the car for about 10 miles. The handling was very good (took a couple of roundabouts spiritedly) and the harsh ride was gone replaced with a firm feel that I could live with for now. I will probably adjust the spring load later.

This morning I'm going to adjust all four corners to:

Left front: 26 1/2" Right front: 26 1/2"
Left rear: 26 1/2" Right rear: 26 1/2"

I post pictures and ride feel later today. Thanks guys for your input and please keep it coming!

I posted an update but it said that it would not be available until the moderators checked it out and then a message said if it is a poll, it would not be allowed.

What is that all about?

Beautiful car CJ. You getting it ready for wheels or spacers?

I see you are a Hawks fan! Oh, and BTW you should paint the walls of your garage white, it multiplies the amount of available light for tinkering with your car.

Some new member's posts require a moderator to approve them. We haven't figured why.

Great to hear. Just keep making micro adjustments and you'll get there. I paid 4-5 visits to each corner before I got the ride height and firmness where I wanted.

Thumbs up Update

Okay, adjusted all four corners:

Lowered left front: 7/8" Lowered right front: 1"
Raised left rear: 5/8" Raised right rear: "7/8"

The results: Drum roll, please!

Left front: 26 3/8" Right front: 26 3/16"
Left rear: 26 3/8" Right rear: 26 1/4"

Was not perfect because I didn't hit my goal of 26 1/2" all around but close enough for Government work. I can live with the spring rate for now because as said after I removed the stowaway rear stock springs the ride is dramatically better.

Thanks to all of you that gave me input. Next is to install the Stillen Cat-Back exhaust and mount new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

BTW, I'm removing the Top Speed Pro-1 Axle-back Exhaust system. I will be posting it up for sale here soon.

Finished product

Great to hear you have it figured out. Ride quality is improved I'm assuming? I couldn't get mine perfect either so I wouldn't stress it. The naked eye isn't going to pick up 1/8 difference.

Out of curiosity, why are you removing the TS?

Me wifey can't stand the noise of a muffler delete.

I've acquired a slightly used Stillen Stainless Cat-Back exhaust system:

When I install the Stillen, I'm going to sell it here.
