Easy to get into beginner mods?

Hey all! I've owned my g37s 7AT coupe for over a year now and really enjoy it. So far I've only "modded" the rear oem spoiler and carsmo *****. I'm in the hunt for some gunmetal wheels for my first real mod.

In the meantime I want to try some smaller things. I see there are tons of DIY posts here. I want to start small such as the gtr push to start button and possibly painting my bbk calipers. I ordered the blue bat overlays a while ago - are they a pain to install?

Also for wheels, where do you all shop for yours? I'm eyeballing eBay and carid right now. It appears gtr and nismo wheels are a little rare to get?

Last question: is the ipl bumper on infinitparts identical to the one on outcast garage. I figured I could snag that and the side sills and apply the 20% estore2018 code on them.

I will do exhaust and other "power" mods after my warranty ends but it's plenty of power for me.

As always, thanks for your insight!

You could always get some vinyl and have a go with it on emblems and work up to your grille. This will also give you a feel for how the overlays will be. Give you a bit of confidence when you go to tackle that project. Also experiment with a grounding kit since you have a 7AT.

Sway bars and endlinks are also rewarding. Those are all pretty simple mods you can do to build your confidence a bit with the car without breaking the bank per se.

That's not a bad idea with the vinyl. I was leaning towards grabbing a midnight black grille but that would seem like good practice.

I forgot all about sway bars. I'll definitely look into that one. Thanks dude!

To answer your other question, regarding rims, reach out to one of our forum vendors and see what they can do for you. They'll have access to tons of brands you might not have considered and you'll be supporting a forum vendor.

Wheels and Tires vendors:

It's all of $30.00 and takes 1hr to construct and install...I understand your skepticism but a lot of people have done this mod and swear by it. At the very least, it improves audio quality.

Personally, I tested it out by applying the kit as soon as I got the car back home in the driveway. Drove with the kit for 8+ months then took it off to see the difference and there was noticeably more lag and hesitation vs when I had the kit on. I'll admit, I was one of the ones that doubted it but once I took it off and saw what it was like driving without it, my view point changed.

I think you could get your grille color matched for less than the midnight grille, with the added benefit of not having the chrome surround. I paid $150 for a shop to paint mine.

Sway bars are the single best mod IMO.

This is a good one; or, swap out the red turn signals for amber ones. Better look IMO vs the red.

Oh nice, that's a great idea. I'll ask around for quotes nearby.

Judging from what I've read in different threads it will be a nice upgrade.

@Vizard87 - thanks for the link. I totally forgot I did in fact already grab that sweet module as well as some led bulbs for license plate, map light, vanity mirror, trunk etc. Very nice lights. Beautiful G btw. The halos are very mesmerizing!

@RMB5190 - I did read about grounding kits. It seems like a relatively straight forward install. I'll add that one to the list!

Engine bolt dress-up kit!
Smoked tail lights***
Clear map Lenses
Interior LED light upgrade (Love this compared to the milky OEM lights)
Fog Light upgrade (optional) I copied John (Rochester) and wrapped mine. Check out his build thread for some ideas.
Moog endlinks when you upgrade sways ($20.00 each)
Strut/tower bar
DIY catch cans?

^All those are relatively simple (1-2 hr installs) and cost $120 or less pending where you buy the item.

***Longer than 1-2 hrs.

Springs and spacers! I went with eibach springs and 20mm spacers all around on my G37xS coupe. WORLD OF DIFFERENCE in terms of stance. Good luck with the mods!
