G37 coupe common problems

I'm looking into buying one, but I'm not sure which year is best and with the least problems in the long run, I have a budget of $15,000.

Models prior to 2012 have an inferior oil gallery gasket under the rear timing cover, this can be upwards of $2k to repair. If you can find a 2012 or newer that is in budget (or increase your budget a bit) that would be a good plan. Also the S model has significant upgrades that would cost a lot more if you were to attempt to add them to a non-S G.

I also plan on getting the automatic because I don't know how to drive stick. Sounds like it's best if I save up more to get a newer S model.

Many complain of the automatic's behaviour, while the manual has the crappy concentric slave cylinder that doesn't last much more than 40k miles. Pick your poison.

You will enjoy the S model.

test drive it. i was looking for an AWD Auto, drove one, and was horrified at how laggy it was, and how it felt more like 200hp vs the factory 330hp.
it was cheap, but rough, so i decided to give one another shot.


found my certified xS at the local Infiniti dealer. paid top dollar (jerks wouldn't budge on price! ), but it still brings grins 3 years into ownership.

I drove a few different non-S AWD coupes with the 7AT. They all felt like the rated 330hp.
The one I bought felt just fine at first, then one day it went very "laggy" after I drove it conservatively for a while. A good ol' WOT off the line a time or two, and an occasional "reminder" to the car that it's not a Corolla keeps the 7AT in good sorts.

Kind of sucks though, my other car is a 2016 GTI with the phenomenal DSG and a tune. That car is on point all the time. I really do like the 7AT when it isn't in "laggy" mode, it doesn't leave me missing the DSG at all. Until it lags. Anyways, prod the gas a few times to remind it to not lag.

Well coming from a lighter front wheel drive car to rear wheel or awd will be a difference. The g is not light

Directed at me? I come from a long history of (un)famously overweight 6 cylinder powered Datsun and Nissan coupes. Z cars, Z31, V6 S12, Z32's. Actually prefer them.

No just giving a comparison sometimes people expect more of a car then it might be able to do. My g vs rc-f and m3 are all different animals

Bought a 2013 6MT brand new.

Never had any problems with it. Careful to stay well ahead of Infiniti recommended maintenance.

Manual transmission seem to reduce lagging issues reported by others.

It is a blast to drive.

Would not hesitate to buy this car again.

I have a 08 S with 5AT, bought it on 2012 with 38k on the odometer, correctly with 110K miles.

Problems I had so far was the Rear diff Bushing, rear axle clicks ( TSB available), rattling cat ( fixed with ART pipes), one annoying thumping noise coming from passenger side on the car in side the cabin which I had for a couple years and still haven't find out what it is.

Here's the thing: the coupe has no problems peculiar to that body style. Check the sedan forum, too, for more G37 problems.

I bought my 08 last year with 54,000 miles it now has 78.000 and the only issues I’ve had so far have been new set of front brakes I upgraded to drilled and slotted.pass side headlight ballest went out 2 weeks ago I replaced it myself.I have some kind of squeaking noise I cannot find but other then that she’s a great car...No regrets on buying her

Unfortunately I think your budgets going to get you a higher mileage older vehicle. Agreed about getting a 2012+ car, manufacturers pretty much have the bugs worked out a few years into a vehicle's run. Depending on where you are you might consider the AWD too if you're going with the auto. There are ton's of 2014 and 2015's coming off lease that are desirable with warranties remaining, but again, more expensive. Pay now or pay later. Caveat emptor.

08 6MT sport here, at 61k miles, bought it new. No issues with anything since new, no problems with clutch or slave cylinder, no problems with oil gasket, nothing. Great car
