Just had a PPI on a G37 coupe I just bought
Hey all, how's it going? I finally purchased my 2013 g37 coupe journey w/sport package w/32.5k miles on Thursday. This is the best vehicle I've ever owned! I purchased it from CarMax and have the 5 day money back guarantee. I had my PPI completed on it from a local Infiniti dealership. What they found was:
Rear Shocks leaking - $958.98
Replace Rear Brake Pads - $330.00 Both are 5 MM.
Recommended new tires since tread is 5 for rear.
4 Wheel Alignment - $89.95
Insp eng drive belts - $280.
Overall it just looks like wear and tear fixing. Are OEM rear shocks generally very expensive or it just the dealership pricing? After seeing this, would you keep the vehicle? I personally love it so far and waited a while to find this exact one.
From what I've read is it usually takes just basic maintenance on these vehicles. I'm researching on the rear shocks part now, but if I were to keep this car it looks like I'd want to fix this asap.
Thanks for any input, folks!

Of course the dealership is going to want to replace all of that. Ton of business for them. I'd take that to carmax first - see what they say. If they don't play nice, take to a mechanic you trust and have the work done for 1/3 of that.
Inspect drive belts - $280? On a 32.5k mile car? Seems like a joke. Do the pads yourself, they are cheap and easy. For that price as well on shocks you might as well upgrade.
Whether you keep it or not, depends on how much you like it. Most of these items can be done cheaper/not at all. That said, it will depend on how much you paid. If CarMax doesn't work with you on the price, and you didn't get an absolute steal, I would look elsewhere unless it is a hard to find combination you love. Gs depreciate quickly and deals can be had all day.

Get some Tein Basis Z coilovers, you can lower your G a bit for a better looking car and the entire set can be had for $500 shipped.
And great advice being given about going to Carmax w/ some ammo now, hopefully they can work that into the final deal.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Oh, I had no intention for paying for any of it! Just wanted the PPI. I completely understand dealerships are in the business of taking your money, lol. It appears it would be a loooot cheaper to just purchase the pads/parts myself and just take them to an independent shop or even give a shot with a DIY. I've never played with cars before, but I know someone who is car savvy and I would love to learn!
I touched base with my sales consultant and I'll bring my vehicle over to their service department tomorrow to have it all checked out. The huge price of the rear shocks had me concerned until I read that they aren't very expensive nor put in. Hopefully CarMax will fix the rear shocks for me even though they are technically wear and tear since I just recently purchased it from them.
The vehicle itself drives smoothly. Somewhat a firm ride, but I love it. I see why lots of people suggested the sport package. It's fun using the DS when getting onto the highway. I've never driven a car this fast before.
I'll continue lurking around other threads to read up some good info!

Maybe someone can correct me, but shocks failing at 32k? That's a little odd. I'm not saying anything is wrong on the car, just find that interesting. Sounds like a reason to go coils or air suspension to me

For DIY rear suspension: If you're already in there, you can also change out the rear struts (if your goal is to stay with OEM) in a short amount of time as well. Three bolts out, remove and replace, three bolts in. That's it.
As long as you're willing to take the time to learn and find out where things are, you can accomplish most things that would cost you a bunch for labor at a shop.
Super easy repairs and unGodly prices. You could get Hawk 5.0 pads all around installed for that $330. As said before, you can get full coil overs for that $950 strut quote too. I hate dealers, I bet your rear struts are totally fine to be honest.
Update: I'll be going to CarMax on Friday and the rear brake pads, rear shocks and engine belt should all be covered under the 30 day warranty. I'm not sure about tires though but I'll ask them at service. They've been awesome with me so far, so hopefully I can get replacements if they aren't up to their quality standard.
My previous vehicle was CPO so I had no issues when going to dealerships. This is my first time seeing big pricing for fixings lol. Thank goodness I didn't go for anything German!
I'll stick to stock right now, but for the next round I should be more informed about adding things for performance. So far I've enjoyed the ride quality of this G. The throttle seems a bit weird at times in low speeds and I read a grounding kit might help. I'll look into that.
Thanks again everyone.
