Need input on Tanabe Medalion Touring

Thinking about replacing the stock exhaust on my 2012 G37X. Goal is to get a deeper sound but not overly loud. One thing I don't want to do is affect the mpg. Currently getting 25-26 on my daily commute and don't want to drop below that.

Thoughts?

Welcome. Try looking in the exhaust forum. There's tons of info on that system since it first came out years ago.

^^^And you probably never will. It, much like your choice for an exhaust, is subjective. Everyone has different driving styles, your car may or may not be running at it most efficent (maintenance) and other factors. If that is why you are looking for an exhaust...idk what to say. Most exhaust...really all should not "change" your mpg. But once you hear that exhaust note its up to you to stay out of the gas hard...your driving will effect your mileage. Good luck

a better flowing exhaust will improve fuel economy a bit (possibly not much that you may notice), depending on how restrictive the factory one is.

as evil-G said above, with a sweet new exhaust note, you may be unconsciously heavier on the gas pedal, so keep that in mind.

i am pleased with my Beluga axle-back - was cheap (~$250), much lighter than the giant factory muffler, and a nice deep tone that's not TOO loud and not raspy.

last week i started it up and had a knock at my passenger window - some guy asked "what's in that thing?!?" i told him a 3.7L V6, and he said, "Whoa, that sounds like a V8! sounds good, man!"

Thanks Landshark. Took a look at some videos and the Beluga is a possibility but the best I saw was around $425 shipped. Just feel the stock doesn't match the character of the car. As far as a better sound affecting the pedal pushing. Not really likely in my case coming from two hybrids and a Jetta diesel there is more then enough on tap for me.

i'm just talking axle-back (just replaces the large rear factory muffler), not a cat-back

be prepared to have it installed, though.

i figured, "easy install - 4 bolts!" nope. the car was 2 years old with 28k at the time. those bolts were SEIZED. cranked on them with a breaker bar, soaked in penetrant, etc. no dice. took down to the local muffler shop to have them cut off with a torch and install the mufflers.

after reading the forums, i'm not the only one who had trouble with those bolts.
