So I'm looking at buying a coupe that was in an accident. The shop has been fixing it up. Does something look wrong with the positioning of this wheel or am I imagining things? Can you guys post pics of what yours looks like please?
i dunno...looks like it's too far in?? or the fender is pressed too far out??
not sure what's going on there but i agree with you. something looks off.
Hard to tell without seeing the whole side of the car, is that lone wheel more tucked into the fender, or is the camber angle more than the rest (as far as the eye can tell)?
What section(s) of the car were repaired?
I have always thought of going for a free alignment on any used car I thought about buying. Then again, I have never seen an alignment shop that didn't think you needed an alignment.
I bought a car that seemed like it had been in an accident, don't know why I did that. After replacing some suspension parts, I took it for an alignment. They told me that my steering knuckle was bent and I need to get it replaced. They still aligned the car, I got the knuckle replaced for around $200 and they aligned it again for free.
If you don't feel right, you probably should run, it you still want it, take it to a body shop or alignment. That should tell you if the suspension is good enough.
1. It's a sedan wheel, I am not sure if they are 7.5" or 8" wide
2. I think there is a defect with the quarter panel. In my outline, it the curvature doesn't seem to be accurate and the fitment isn't flush with the bumper.

Yeah good point, those are the sedan wheels! Sedan wheels are 7.5 front and 8.5 rear, whereas the correct rears on a coupe are 9". He told me that those are front wheels. So that difference in 1.5 could be the reason it looks so off. If I were to tell you guys that I was getting a terrific deal on this car, would you guys say that slight misalignment on the quarter panel shouldn't be the reason to not purchase the car?
What type of accident was this in? If they had to replace the rear quarter panels, I assume it was a major accident not just a fender bender. There could be lots of potential frame adjustments and repairs. Short term:you save a couple thousand. Long term: You have a dirty car-fax history, car may not handle as originally intended or be as "solid".
Each and everyone of us would do something different when it comes to seeing/purchasing a car like this..
It's what works for you sir, that's all that matters.
But x2 on getting a second opinion by way of alignment/mechanical.
I purchased a car that I thought was a good deal, it was in a previous accident that involved the quarter panel like the one in your picture. Walking up to the car, I couldn't tell. It wasn't until we signed the papers and passed the 3 day return per financer that I started to look into it. There was a slight dent that I could see walking up to the car. And a slight haze in the clear coat that didn't look right. I dug into the car.. phone calls were exchanged, and my last resort was to take to infiniti service to look over the car. I didn't tell them anything regarding what I was looking for.. they knew it was in a previous accident but everything checked out as far as mechanical and repair.
