Buying my first Infiniti g37s.. Reliable enough to not get a warranty?

Hey guys! So glad i'm finally going to own a g37s! I have been wanting one for a while now and god i love everything about it especially the tail lights at night! I am looking to get one at CarMax for $15,998 with 55k on it its a 6MT silver with gray int. before taxes one owner, no accidents very very mint! No nav or RV camera but has bose,sr,leather of course. I finally drove it today and haven't bought but I fell in love!

They offer their warranty for 2200 covers everything except basic routine maintenance/wear and tear items clutch being one of those. Covers AC electronics etc. I have been doing a ton of research on it and from what I have heard the CSC is most likely going to go bad ,as well as the Rear timing gasket! Should I just avoid the warranty and save up for these parts in the near future? How are electronics on this car? I never owned a push to start so wondering if those are issues as well! Previous 350z owner only did normal maintenance never replaced anything major! A local guy here on G group told me $800 for parts z1 CSC elimin kit parts and labor ($400 labor then parts). Rear timing gasket replacement costs (not at stealerships) Would there be anyway of looking up maintenance records to see if these parts were replaced before? Sorry lots of questions lol Thanks any feedback is appreciated!

Yes there is!

Pay a visit to your local Infiniti dealer and request a quote from them for a full and through inspection including running the VIN number on the vehicle you are considering.
Then when you return to CarMax make the sale contingent on a successful inspection by the Infiniti dealer. Use any deficiencies found by the Infiniti dealer to negotiate the price or force the seller to pay for them. Or you can walk away.

CarMax is well known for missing important vehicle facts.
I am not a fan of warranties but In my opinion the only automobile warranty that I had experience with was the one I had on my previous 06 G35 6speed when I commuted 2k miles/month. It paid for the replacement of the CSC. The Infiniti Elite warranty cost $1950 and Infiniti allowed me to pay for it over 10 months on my credit card with no interest charge. I did get the points on my card.
I did not take the warranty on my current 2012 G37S. At almost 79k miles only oil changes so far.

Be careful and good luck

I wouldn't get the warranty........Infiniti has many warranties that are still in existence on this vehicle.

I think its wise to buy an extended warranty on any used car. When I bought mine it still had the factory warranty but I still bought an extended one just to be safe. I knew I was going to keep the car and just in case anything went wrong it would be covered. Repairs for these cars are not cheap, so pay a little more upfront and be covered, or pay nothing now and out the rear later...your choice

Well we recently found out from a member that any year model can be affected by rear timing cover gasket failure, so even 2012+ owners must be wary. Regardless, I still wouldn't buy the warranty since it doesn't cover the clutch. Repair costs for the timing gasket range anywhere between $2-4k so you might as well roll the die.

Yeah doesn't cover clutch and gasket is a small percent from what I have heard lol cost to replace it is same as the entire warranty lol decisions decisions.

Subscribed. My 13xs coupe has 53k so factory warranty will exp pretty soon(driving 2k/mth). Strongly considering ext warranty. Even if nothing serious ends up going wrong, having a peace of mind is priceless imo.

Everyone has different circumstances and risk tolerance that color their decisions. For us, this is how we see it:
1- Extended warranties are written and claims managed to produce profits for sellers of those policies.
2- The underwriter may also be bankrupt when I need them.
3- According to Consumer reports and my own experience with Infiniti, the G-37 and Infiniti cars are very reliable.
4- We took the money for the policies, invested it to cover major repairs, and then rolled the dice. It has proven a good bet.

Our experience is from owning a 2013 6MT (20,000 mi) and 2002 I-35 (85,000 mi) with no major issues.

Wish you the best of luck and that you enjoy your toy

I guess everyone has their own opinion when it comes to buying Extended Warranty. I bought my '11 G37s Coupe last year (Sept'15) about 6 months before buying I did my homework on the car which included visiting this site. There were small reports of 08's to 11's having issues with the Rear Timing Gasket leaks, so for just for peace of mind, I ended up buying the extended warranty for $2K.

Just last week I had the car in the dealer for 60K service and during the inspection they found the rear timing gasket leaking and a subframe bushing leaking. Combine this would have cost me over $4k to fix and they fixed it under warranty. So my warranty just paid for itself. So for me having the extended warranty worked out.

I wouldn't assume yet that the 2012+ models have the faulty gaskets. It was clear that the members engine was severely neglected for a very long time by the previous owner and even after replacement of the rear timing cover it still had the issue.
