passenger rear quarter panel keyed

Some ****er keyed my car, i dont know when. I just need to vent and thinking about selling it


Can i repair it myself or need to take it to shop?

Boy I hate when some moron does that to a car. Well, if you are going to sell it you'll need a pro to fix it, but to do it right they'll have to do the whole panel. Anyway, get a quote and hopefully it will be less than your insurance deductible since you don't even want to alert your insurance company-they may try to raise your rates.

If you want to keep it then I would just use Dr ColorChip to fill in the key track.

I got 3 quotes:
1200
1600
450
Thinking of going with 450 paid in cash. They will respray the whole panel.

Just be careful tho... sometimes they are cheap for a reason. If it's not too deep, you might be able to wet sand and buff to make it less obvious. But to make it completely disappear, then of course you would need to take to pro.

Sorry to hear about your car. I had my entire door resprayed (not due to keying) and it was $850 from a reputable local body shop. They did a great job. If you're only paying $450 for a quality job then that's not a bad deal.

I've often considered getting PPF (paint protection film) on the remainder of my car in order to prevent keying but the cost would probably be prohibitive. I live in downtown Philly and I see lots of keyed cars. The worst was an older G35 coupe I saw parked at Dave & Buster's ... someone had keyed the trunk lid in multiple circles (i.e. it was not a "drive by" keying ... they sat there and worked at it). Sucks that people will resort to such behavior.

On the bright side, the guy didn't key the driver's side. If the scratch doesn't catch your fingernail, I would take a shot at compounding the area first since repainting is always a last resort. If that doesn't work, try wet sanding with high grit sandpaper followed by polish.
