Dashboard melting

Hi guys,

I read some threads where owners complained that they were dealing with issues regarding their dashes melting? I was just wondering, is this a common issue? And it is isolated to specific years? Seems like it's mostly 2008s that are complaining about this.

I had a IS300 with this same issue, and I'd rather not have to deal with this again if i decide to buy a G37. Thanks in advance!

of all the years i worked in the dealer and with import and european manufacturers i have never seen a dash/instrument panel melt. what tends to happen is there are minute to moderate cracks especially near areas of the passenger airbag. cracks on the dash/instrument panel in my opinion are due to lack of proper maintenance by the car owners. sprays some uv protectant on surface and use a windshield shade when you park your car for extended amount of time.

IMO any dash is bound to deteriorate eventually if left to routinely bake like a cake in the sun rather than being subject to daily protection of some sort.

The material/leather these days are MUCH better than days past. Its not exactly easy to mess up a dash that bad. Keep it maintained w/leather cleaner, etc.

I wouldn't dismiss that melting dashboards are caused strictly by neglect. Toyota is replacing 4.5 million dashboards, extending warranties. This action was to avoid a lawsuit. There are other lawsuits including at least one against Nissan for the same dashboard problem.

This is why I invest in a cheap $25 windshield sun shade. Keeps my interior looking like new.

hmm i would if the issue with the dashboard/instrument panel is caused by high humidity. in the video it does not look like the material is melting but yet instead the adhesive glue used may be seeping out of the top surface of the dashboard/instrument panel. it is wildly known that regional climate factors can cause certain issues to cars in those areas.
