Carbon Fiber Engine Cover

Hello all,

I was just about to purchase a carbon fiber engine cover form outcast garage. I was reading on the description of the product and it says that this must be clear coated for the product to keep its shine.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for clear coating carbon fiber? Is it truly needed?

Thanks,

Dylan

If its any kind of quality, it will have a gel coat over it.....then you simply take it to a shop to have it professionally clear coated. Atleast that is what I did with my AIT cover

I would suggest using SprayMax 2K Aersol. It's a 2-part catalyzed "glamour" clear. Works very well and holds up just like factory clear.

Any sanding required?

Depends on how well you lay it down when spraying.

If you wanted it to look as good as possible a quick sanding with 2000 or 3000 grit paper and polishing would make it look like glass.

Planning to do this with my status elite cf engine cover over the winter. Thanks for the reminder about the 2k/2part clear-- I believe you've mentioned it in previous posts before. I've heard nothing but rave reviews from another friend who used it on some motorcycle parts.

Yeah it's great. I started using it on wheels and never went back to the normal over the counter clears.

If you want professional results, that's the stuff to get!
