Why Does My Car Drive Like It Weighs 10 Tons?

Recently picked up a 2011 g37x. Nothing but issues since Day 1. More recently the car drives like its a 7 series.. Very slow and lags as it drives, feel like I'm pulling a boat. To Accelerate onto the highway I have to put my foot to the floor.. Sounds like I'm going 100mph but in reality I only reached 40mph while getting up to 6000RPM.

Another thing is the gas is just draining out of the car I dove about 40 miles yesterday, had a full tank in the morning by the time I got home my gauge was moving up and down on its own.. Empty for 10 minutes,,, half way for 10 seconds, back down to empty.. Im not sure whats going on.

Lastly car has a garbage smell when i accelerate (only sometimes), I'm thinking convertors are on their way out.. NO CEL Light or any lights on dash.

Any help? Have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow but they never seem to help..

Were these issues present during the test drive? The car needs a proper diagnosis to determine what has failed before just swapping parts.

My appointment is tomorrow. I Just looked at old records and apparently they experienced same things during service test drive with a tech.. car was powering off for them... See they did a ECM/TCM reset?

Have your cats checked they might be clogged, the x are a little heavier than then rwd, the 7 speed can have some lag especially if it hasn't had the transmission update from the dealer, there's is currently two transmission updates. Check in to that and it should accelerate when in DS mode but even after the updates there is still some lag here and there

My car is the same way! I'm getting 13mpg and when I step on the gas it makes a lot of noise but doesn't move. Even Honda's accelerates faster than my car. If you find out what the problem is please let me know.

Are all of you auto? My 6 spd scoots pretty good. The car is heavy though so that doesn't surprise me. If your car smells like rotten eggs under acceleration it is your cats on the bye bye. I am thinking the mpg is driving habits...I average 23 mpg mixed driving and that is me punching it getting onto the freeway and cruising at 70 mpg.

I came from a 6speed and now I have a 7 speed auto, and yes definitely a difference and no lag on the 6 speed. I miss my manual

^^^Ok...I was wondering. I have never felt the car was "slow". I have felt it could be faster but coming from my little 4cyl Mitsu to this anything is a rocket! The mpg thing sounds like it might need a tune up or like I said, possible driving habits

I agree with the catalytic converter diagnosis. Another possibility could be that your Oxygen sensor(s) could be going bad, causing the car to run extra rich (which would also affect your cats). Also, have the dealer check to make sure your car has the latest version of the transmission software... that update alone made my coupe feel much peppier. BTW I average about 22mpg overall with mostly aggressive city driving.

So you test drove the car with these issues and they gave you paperwork confirming these issues were present, and then you proceeded to buy the car?

When I drive 75mph on the highway it feels like I'm going faster than that. The car is heavy but by no means feels heavier than a 7 series. Something might be wrong with your G, all of those things you've listed I have yet to experience. Good luck! hopefully everything comes out okay or is able to get fixed.

It's weird - my friends base model 2013 Camaro, a non-luxury muscle car, feels a lot smoother and quieter at both low and high speeds. Maybe its the larger sidewalls on the tires but 100mph in that car feels like 70 in the G. Either Chevrolet did a great job or Infiniti is slacking. Our cars being from a luxury brand makes me think the latter.

There's lots of tire noise in the G (especially with worn stock re050a tires). I think next spring will be the time for new tires for me. Hopefully quiet the car down too.

I've seen a few people mention these transmission updates. Is there any way for me to know if my car has received it? If I wanted to call the dealer and check up on this would they know what I'm talking about?

Change intake filters and make sure CAT isn't clogged.
