Infiniti Dealer Scam?
Infiniti Dealer Scam?
So i brought my car to an Infiniti dealer here in Arizona Yesterday because my Masters and Slave Cylinder on the Clutch gave out on me.The Dealer called me to tell me that i need my clutch replaced since they did not see anything on their record. he said the slave cylinder was leaking and that probably messed up the clutch. for everything out the door its 3900, and for just the masters and brake cylinder its 1500 in which he was able to bring it down to "1200" with managers approval. Today i talked to him and he said that they opened the tranny and noticed that the clutch was good with a little bit of wet spots. my question is, was the dealer just trying to up sell me for a clutch? in which i just replaced with a stage 2. and was my slave cylinder needing to be replaced if he noticed minor wet spots on the clutch? and also are infiniti dealers known to tell you that things need to be replaced when it clearly isnt?"

wouldnt it be a scam if they charged you for it and didnt do the work at all
this isnt even close
To inspect the clutch, they would have had to remove the propeller shaft and transmission. Do you think they would do all this work just to inspect the condition of the clutch?
90% of auto shops do that. It's not really a scam, just a really $hitty practice. Every time my wife goes anywhere near an auto mechanic, she comes back with a list of things she "needs" to get done on her car and I promptly throw the list in garbage.

Read up on it... The shop that did the work should of been aware of this.
In addition, really any time you mess with the clutch, unless the master is brand new (newer?), it's also a good idea to replace that at the same time. Do it right once rather than dealing with the headaches that follow when trying to save a few bucks.
