G37 Journey Coupe questions!
G37 Journey Coupe questions!
Well, firstly I'd like to say hello, I'm new here and this is my first post on this forum so I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place. Anyway, about a few months ago I bought a G37 Journey Coupe with about 58k Miles on it. The first few days of driving were very smooth and I didn't run into any issues. However, I noticed later (been dealing with it because it's been hard to find time to head to the dealership based on my work schedule and what not. If anyone could help me out, or give suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. (I will be adding on to this thread, I suppose if other things come up.)
Muffler/exhaust rattling, it happens while I'm in first gear driving, while I'm in reverse, but my the time I'm driving in 2nd gear, it goes away. When it is idled in park, it also rattles. While revving, it may rattle between 3-6k RPM's.
I'm pretty sure the windows also need to be readjusted, but I don't know exactly what the process is. (They squeak at the top when they are coming down, and they whistle a little when I'm driving above 50 mph.)
Also, the brakes do squeak a little, but I don't really know where to start first. (I'm pretty sure it's the front brakes)...what do you guys suggest?
Also, after driving for a little while, in the engine area it sounds like a ticking fan, and rocks are being thrown back and forth in between the car...I'm not sure what this means, but I'd really appreciate any form of explanation or help with it.
Again, I'm sorry if I've said anything newbie and what not, I'm not too knowledgeable on cars, but I have a love for G's. I look forward to being a very active member on this forums, and hope I can take this stock G37 coupe to the next level and turn it into a monster with your guys's help.

Welcome the site, and yeah, I'd wait 24 hrs to bump a thread
I'm short on time but somebody should help out.
The rattle w/ your exhaust is possibly your catalytic converters heat shielding, it tends to get loose over time.

Welcome, some your items are covered in length ... do a search for squeaky brakes (common, we all have it). There is a window reset procedure you can try but sounds like your window gaskets might be shot. Seller might have used some silicone on them to temporarily help while selling it. The ticking noise could be normal expansion taking place. You don't describe if you are hearing it while driving or you ear the noise once parked and shut off.
Overall the G is a very reliable car. Those of us that have been here for a long time see the same questions a lot so if we tell you to search first, don't be offended :-)

I have the same rattle on my exhaust.. It makes a weird vibration rattle at 3800-4000 Rpms.. I think I'm going to remove the heat shields all together and just wrap my exhaust with heat wrap. And yes, all of our brakes do squeak especially the akebono sport brakes.

it helped me out. I'll be taking it into the dealership later this week and will keep you posted. However, I hear the ticking noise while the car is on after driving for awhile, when I step outside of the vehicle while leaving the car running; if that makes sense. The windows just need to be adjusted, that's all, whether it's the window itself or the rubber trim on the outside. Hopefully the dealership doesn't really break my pockets on it.Could you possibly explain what the heat wrap does? Hmm. I think I'm going to get the brakes checked as they are a little bit used up. I've decided that I'm just going to deal with rattle for now and within the next few months invest in a Motordyne E370 Exhaust & an IPL Kit. Also, if you don't mind me asking (This is also for whoever is checking the thread as a whole) for a stock bumper, can I buy a diffuser? Or would I need a seperate bumper to make sure it has that "clip-on" & "clip-off" feature with the tape. I'm just quite confused about diffusers as my car is all stock on the body kit.
