Help on Spoiler Install

Hey everyone. So I recently bought an OEM spoiler for my 08 G37 but it didn't have the template or any hardware. I went to the dealer this morning to have it installed but they said they needed the clips and the template. I've seen some DIY's but Im not to fond of drilling a hole in my trunk since there is no 2nd chances.
I called different dealers and sellers on Ebay to see if they could sell me the clips or the template but no luck.

So my question is have I screwed myself that I have to buy a new one or should I just say a prayer and measure a friends spoiler and install myself? Or should I post on the for sale page and see if someone can sell an extra template and the clips needed?

Maybe contact the folks One Eighty at:

G37 Coupe OEM Rear Decklid Spoiler | Exterior | ONEighty NYC

Go to the contact page and ask for some advice. Just an idea. Good luck.

DO NOT try to install that spoiler without the proper hardware, it will never work.

Thanks for the input guys. I shot them an email and hopefully it works out. I'll have an update later. And yeah, the last thing I want to do is make the situation more costly (new trunk).

Send it back to where you bought it from. As others have said, don't attempt it without all the right clips and template.

Yeah I just might have to do that. One Eighty said they couldn't help. Does anyone have a spare template or hardware if they never got the time to install?

The place you ordered it from (I assume an Infiniti dealer) should get you the missing parts or exchange it with no questions asked. Why go to extreme measures to try and dig up parts? Which I find highly unlikely you will be able to do since no one is going to break up a set and there are no "extra" parts in the kit.

From what I have read, I am under the impression that he bought this spoiler used. From my experience installing the spoiler, I would not recommend installing the spoiler without the template or correct hardware. There is not too much wiggle room for where the holes need to be drilled and the hardware is very application specific as well. You will save a lot more money purchasing the kit.

When I get home, I will look at the instructions that came with my spoiler. If I remember correctly, the hardware had part numbers assigned to them, so it is possible you can purchase these separately.

Edit: I found the grommets/clips you need, very reasonably priced too.

I agree, don't install without the proper instructions and hardware. I installed mine myself so I know whats involved. I see no mention of the OP buying used as I interpreted the statement about buying "a new one" as meaning buy a new (aka different) replacement.

We are on the same page.

I don't think I can thank you enough. And yes! That's excatly what I nedded. I forgot to mention that I bought it used from a fellow member here. It was a steal in my eyes and I thought it'd be easy after that.

And you're right. My local Nissan technician who has his own shop on the side told me he wouldn't even touch it without the template. And sorry I forgot to mention that it was used. I'll buy the hardware from the link Ryne mentioned and hopefully swoop up a template

Did you get the replacement trunk struts and wiring harness that are part of the kit?

Harness yes but struts no. I read another post and it seems that the trunk already struggles with the chrome spoiler so the OEM spoiler's added weight will make the struts a must. I'll also need some extra tape. Moral of the story, never rush to buy things based on assumptions

Sounds like you are missing a few very important items, good luck with which ever route you take.

The part number for the heavy duty trunk struts is 84430-JL00B. I have the instructions, I could possibly get them to you if that would help at all.

If you have the hardware, a body shop should be able to easily install this without a template. They basically will put paint on the tip of the studs on the spoiler and line it up. The paint will transfer in the correct position and they will drill the proper size holes. You could DIY this, there are a few videos on YouTube, but it's a one shot deal and is high stakes.
