Annoying feature, auto locks

Seems if I unlock the car & don't open a door it locks itself again after a few minutes. Anyway to disable this?

this is pretty common, I know my wife's old mazda6 did this, and I think her buick enclave.

I don't think there's any easy way to turn this off. I'm very paranoid and would love to turn off all auto-locking features, but I think the only lock option available is to not unlock the car when shifting into park

I think you have 30 seconds .... common feature in modern cars with a fob to unlock doors. Protects from the "butt-unlock".

This feature prevents the car from remaining unlocked in cases of accidental "butt unlocking." Very similar and common to people "butt dialing" their cellphones. There is no way to disable this feature that I know of.

Not sure why you are just unlocking a door and not opening it thus causing this rather benign feature to kick in? If it bothers you that much you could just use the physical key itself or disable to power locks entirely. Not trying to sound crass but I don't see the big deal.

I have the exact opposite issue. I just purchased a 2013 G37X Coupe and my doors do not automatically lock. When I park it in my garage, I don't lock it and its stays unlocked. I was wondering if there is a way you can the auto-lock feature on and off?

I too park in my garage where the doors stay unlocked, so I guess I do not have that auto lock feature, nor would I want it. Of course, sometimes the doors will lock accidently when I rub the fob against a wall or something like that.

umm this isnt the same issue nor would it fall under turning the feature on or off. If you go home, get out of your car and do NOT lock the doors why would you expect the doors to just randomly and automatically lock? The car would need AI to see your home and are out of the car for the night before it could decide to just lock the doors because you forgot or decided you didn't want to put the effort into pushing the lock button.

Never ever would i want a feature that would decide i wanted the doors locked even if i didnt lock them myself.

The original post states that his car automatically locks itself. I was trying to emphasize that my car never locks by itself and the only time I don't lock my car is when its in the garage.

what he is talking about is if your car is locked, you unlock it with the fob but don't open the doors within 30 seconds it will re-lock. They don't automatcially lock if they were never locked in the first place.

I know the purpose....I have been able to disable it on other cars. Just seeing if it could on this car.
It's pretty damn annoying when I have a bunch of things in my hands & I unlock the car once & don't get to the door within 30 seconds. Then I have to put everything down to hit the FOB or door button.

Ok. I just checked the FSM for my car ('08 Coupe) section DLK p. 52.

The only way the auto lock feature can be disabled is via CONSULT-III. You will have to take the car to a dealer and have them disable it unless you know of someone who has CONSULT that can do it for you. The auto lock is controlled by the BCM via CAN. Therefore there is no simple solution short of changing the setting via CONSULT.

Hope this helps.

Body control module and CAN bus discussion. Sweet. Thanks for sharing what appears to be first hand knowledge on disabling this truly annoying feature.

Good info! Now getting the snob dealers by me to actually do it & not charge me an hour labor at $140/per is another obstacle.

My bad. I just tried it with the key fob and the button on the door handle. My car automatically re-locked after 30 seconds. Thanks for clarifying.
