Possible parts - Need motivation to design

Looking into designing some air tubes that go from the intake holes on the frame to the grill. They would pretty much turn the stock intake into a long tube. It'll also help bring in a more direct, and therefore more voluminous, flow of air into the engine bay for those with a short ram.

The other idea is replacement vent covers that'll have fog light holes, or splitters like on the zele bumper. Those with splitters or nothing at all will be vented, but with the same mesh design as on the stock covers.

For the vent covers, I was also thinking about redirecting the air towards the intercooler.

Let me know what guys think and if you would be interested in any of this.

A while back I thought of a similar design and spoke to a fellow G owner about actually producing some mock ups. My idea was to fabricate a plastic piece that you could remove the front bumper and it would hopefully just snap in, maybe a couple of screws or a custom bracket. A ram air duct with dual outlets that fit into each of the stock cutouts, redirecting all of the air into the airboxes. Just as you said it could turn the stock intake into a cold air induction system or possibly benefit an SRI.

I wanted to take into account the extra debris so it would have to include some type of grill or a filter to block the bugs/rocks before going in. Then, I needed to make sure water did not go in during heavy rain or collect inside the system afterwards. I would have to run several dyno's on different systems to compare and prove my product.

It seems like it could be done if I spent more time on it but I ended up just buying a Gen3. If you decide to do it for yourself tho it could probably be done somewhat inexpensively, don't you have access to a 3D printer at your school? I'm interested to see what you come up with.

I initially thought about your same design connecting the side vents to the intake holes. However for 3D printing, it would come out quite expensive as it would need a good amount of material to go from the vents to the intake holes. Thats why I then thought about using the front grill space instead, since it would require less material.

There are 3D printers at my school, but I'm in Miami for the summer. I plan on having these 3D printed by a 3D printing company. So far I have the tubing and the velocity stack designed. I did some research for the best velocity stack dimensions. I expect them to look pretty aggressive if they were to be painted and put behind a Ryou mesh grill.

As for the vents, I will be taking one out on my own G to measure and dimension and then make those up. Since 3D printing is convenient and fast, I can make all the variations of vent mesh (fog lights, splitters, intercooler tubes, etc) available for everyone at no cost to me.

I'll keep you guys updated on the designs.
