Hi guys

recently I heard from my friend that if you floor your gas pedal from the beginning it is not as fast as you floor the gas pedal slowly. What I'm saying is put it in Sport Mode then press the gas pedal as you accelerate, not floor it instantly. And when I tried this it did seem to give more torque then instantly flooring the gas pedal. Anyone?

 

depends on the vehicle.

Some vehicles will flood if you accelerate fully.

As for the G, if its stock you can just floor it.

but if you start doing some crazy mods you will find better acceleration with more throttle at certain rpms

 

so, basically every1 in this forum accelerates with full pedal pressed?

 

I have owned my G for a little over an year and have never fully pedal to the floor-floored it. When i do gun it I usually hit it hard but not completely to the floor. I still smile big.

 

I accelerate loudly. In D it just pulls and pulls, in DS midway through 3rd gear and most of 4th gear the car just claws at the road. Please don't misinterpret what I am saying. I drive pretty responsibly, "but when I do drink, I drink Dos Equis" LOL

 

For best effect, floor the throttle, then dump the clutch. Make sure traction control is off.

 

He doesn't have a clutch to dump though. If I'm spirit driving I do the above like Jsolo says, but I found the oem clutch is weak so I don't do it too often.

 

i have a question when i try to launch i usually go up around 3-4.5k rpm and release the clutch with traction off but the car doesn't seem to like it and the traction light comes on. am i doing it wrong?

 

I drive like I have some sense. I accelerate with some aggression getting on the freeway but that's about it. Trying to dump the clutch and launch, turning off the traction control to get goofy is just asking for trouble if you ask me. If you are doing this on a track I guess no big deal but on the streets...stupid

I only attempted it in a parking lot and have only done it twice since it wouldn't let me spin the second time :/. only wanted to try it.

 

Well I've seen videos on youtube where people accelerate in g37 7-speed auto, and when they do that, I noticed that they put the tranny in DS mode (not D, but pull the lever to the driver side and put in DS mode), but they do not touch it. So it is in DS mode but it's still automatic. Is there a difference between DS mode and D mode? I put up a video of my g37x 0-60mph, it feels slow to me, please check it out and tell me what u think.

From what I've been told DS mode is the "sport" mode for the 7AT. It holds the tranny in gear a little bit longer. Other than that I don't think it does much. I rarely use it. If sporty driving is you goal manually shift in the 7AT.

 

This ^. DS just has more aggresive shift points and will let you ride at higher RPMs longer before shifting.

If youre driving in D with the throttle say 1/3 of the way down, when you get to 3k rpms it will shift to the next gear as you keep accelerating. Lets say you get to 3k rpms, but dont keep accelerating - you just cruise at 40mph... the car will shift to the next gear to reduce rpms and save on gas.

If youre driving in DS with the same scenario, you will shift at 4k (i think, dont remember). However, if you do get to 40mph and sitting at 3k-4k and you just cruise, you will keep driving in that gear at that RPM for longer (maybe 5-10 seconds?) this way if you decide to hit the gas again the car is already at higher RPMs and is more responsive (more hp &trq at higher rpm) when you gun it.

Also, when driving in DS mode I have noticed that if im decelerating, the car will downshift at around 2500 to the lower gear and spike the rpms up to 3500, so if you did hit the gas while the car was decelerating you would have much better power and torque for better responsiveness to accelerate again.

Finally, I think your car is a little slower because the air temperature is in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit.

However for me it's still not aggressive enough in DS mode...for example in moderate traffic at ~20-30mph it will shift into 5th maybe 6th gear which is brutal to try and accelerate in if you then need to speed up or change lanes and give it some gas. For this reason I always drive in the manual mode (I'd say 99% of the time) because I like to have control and be able to sit in 3rd or 4th. Alternatively being able to drop down to 5th and pass someone easily on the highway is fun as hell
