Infamous gtr exhaust on g37?

Well I thought this topic would have been discussed to death, but I actually haven't found much yet in research. A guy in my area is selling a catback OEM gtr exhaust and if I can get it for the right price, I would like to throw it on my coupe.

I'm hoping to get in touch with someone whose actually done this mod before and can give some insight on the actual procedure/fabrication work that'll be involved. I found one thread on here about somebody trying it in 2012, but it referenced one guy on youtube whose done it and speaks russain and doesn't actually give much detail. (i'd contact him but i dont know russian).
https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-cou...iti-g37-3.html

Heres the link

Besides that, i found a lot of "hypothesizing" but no actual build threads off google. I'll be calling my local tuner shop to see if they've done this mod before but I just want to get a feel of what im getting into before purchasing the actual exhaust. I'm hoping there has to be at least one person on here whose done it??

Any help is much appreciated, feel free to pm me also for details

Thanks

A GTR exhaust won't fit without major modification to the exhaust. You could make it fit, but you would essentially have to hack it apart and reweld it back into shape.

It's far more efficient, cheaper, and less likely to cause problems if you just buy an exhaust made specifically for this platform. Any exhaust in the world can be forced onto the g37, but it's just better to get something off the rack.

i know of one guy who did this but with his 35 coupe. If you i could send you his FB info so you can ask questions. But like GoFightNguyen said, its gonna require a lot of modification to make it work

hmmm fair enough, they are two seperate platforms so I expect it to be a heavy task. I've seen several done on a g35/350z but if im not mistaken the process is a bit easier I believe.

I've contacted my local tuner shop and they are willing to consider it, although it will be their first. They have previosly done a 350z but again, thats a different case. They are estimating 4-6 hours of labor/fab work...... not bad in my opinion right ???

I believe you only use the muffler and have to custom make the rest of it. That said, the exhaust isn't going to get you that much power, it's designed for a turbo car with 200+ more hp than the G37. G37 exhausts will be more suited for N/A and will take full advantage of scavenging, varying piping diameters and exhaust flow.

Makes sense but in all honesty power is not that big of a factor for me. I have pretty much every bolt for this car including high flow cats which im keeping on so with the addition of the gtr exhaust, I shouldn't be losing much hp, if any at all.

Well I have everything in place.. seller is ready to drop it off and I have a shop on stand by for fab work. I just dont know if i should pull the trigger or not I dont wanna go throuhg all this effort and money just to end up hating it in the end.

Good Luck. I think this is a bad idea, but I'm interested in your results.

I agree. This doesn't make sense for multiple reasons. You're going to buy the exhaust and then spend approx $300 (4-6 hr labor) on modifying an exhaust that you're not sure will flow or perform as you want. So in total you're up to $800-$1000 for an unproven exhaust.
Then down the road, you're going to have trouble selling it because most people aren't going to buy a hacked up exhaust.
Overall, IMO I think it makes a lot more sense to buy a good used G37 exhaust here on the site. Best value.

Get a G37 exhaust and GTR tips. Cut and weld. Problem solved.

Any more than this is a pointless exercise.

I understand everyones point in that it seems like a lot of trouble with little benefit.. Im sorta sleeping on it now but its still a hell of a deal for the sellers price... $145 for the entire catback. if not me someone should take benefit of it.

seemed like a solid plan in theory tho :/ im surprised no one on here has done it

I drove in a group for 200 miles with guy who has a G35 with a GTR exhaust. It's very loud. It drones horribly. It sounded like garbage to me, but he likes it. We made him stay at the back of the pack because nobody wanted to be behind him and have to listen to that abomination.

But it's off if a GTR, yo!

$145 for the catback plus whatever the shop is gonna charge you won't end up being a great deal. As others have said, its gonna take a lot of work to make it fit. Why waste the time and money when in the end it probably will sound terrible and may hurt performance? Just so u can say u have a GT-R exhaust? Do yourself a favor and get an exhaust that is made for ur car
