Here is an update on my burning smell. I still continue to smell the odor atleast once a week so it's still there but not all if the time. You cannot smell it outside the car or when I lift the hood immediately after smelling it. I can only smell it inside the car. The other day when I smelled it as I was pulling in the garage, I leaned forward and I can definitely smell this particular odor coming out of the heat vent right next to the navi screen.

Any more updates on this? I'm experiencing something similar on my 2011. I was concerned there was something wrong with the clutch but I have it in the shop now and they said the clutch is fine. They're still investigating. I'm starting to think it might be the cleaning solvent but I have no idea. Also, I only smell it from outside near the engine, mostly near the driver's side and it smells like burnt clutch but I know I didn't burn it. I wasn't even driving hard.

No mine was definitely not clutch. I don't have one in this car, it's my first automatic ever, lol. I only smell the burning smell once in a great while now. It either had something to do with the cleaning solvent or something with the heat because I only seem to smell it when the heat is on.

I get this too, almost 2,000 miles on my 2014 x coupe. Only smells like that if I really redline the engine. But then I could redline it again and smell would barely be there. I heard things like it's just the way the VQ37 is, and also that it could just be carbon deposits being burned out the exhaust and that only happens when you get on it hard which isn't often for everyday driving so it allows for a little build up.
Anyway Other than that car is immaculate. I just hope it's not an oil leak, I doubt it is because I've checked the dip and it's been fine. And I want to start using RP oil for my first oil change and I heard changing to synthetic can mess up an engine with an oil leak. But I highly doubt the smell is from an oil leak.

First of all Welcome to all the new G37 Coupe Owners ,

As for this little annoying smell it happens even on my g37xS Coupe but maybe like once a month if I ripp it hard also I noticed my rad coolent hose was a little leaky but I just clamped it down again and seems to be steady I'll change the hose next service

As long as the car is fine and temp is not moving towards H your more then fine

Maybe this is an X Coupe Problem lol I haven't heard of any S or reg G's having this issue

Thanks man, yea I'm not too concerned but I've read so much about this but can't seem to find an answer every one agrees on haha.
Ohh and I've looked at other posts on here about switching from Dino oil to full synthetic, and I was wondering what your take would be on that? Once I hit close to 3k I'd like to drain the Dino oil the dealer ship put in and maybe go with Mobil 1. Is this too early or is it okay? I keep reading mixed views on this as well.

I personally would not transition to synthetic at 3,000 miles. The engine needs to break in, and more importantly the seals need to be conditioned, with the OEM non-synthetic oil first. If it were me, I'd wait until the 3rd oil change before switching to Mobile-1 Synthetic. That should put you around 10,000 miles before transitioning to synthetic. You'll probably get other opinions, and this is just mine.

No problem man, changing oil might help I remember I was using my local garage for my first oil change and I think they put in cheap general synthetic oil , I go to the dealer now and they use Mobile 1 synthetic. My car functions great and I have barely any smell.

Lol I'm sure this is an X coupe
Problem.....

Haha yea I guess it is. I don't really see it as a problem as much as I do an annoyance since it's not causing a real problem to the car as far as I'm aware.

Yea, I'm not sure though. I've actually decided to go with RP 5w-30. I just bought some. But yea I'm hearing mixed opinions all over the place. I personally feel like 10k is on the higher side as far as engine conditioning goes. Because some Gs get good dealers that put synthetic in from day 1 and same with other car brands. Unfortunately my dealer is cheap and I'm more than positive they used regular Dino oil, especially since I was offered 2 year free oil changes...lol I don't think so. I'd rather pay and get my own material and know what's going in it and take it to a good performance shop. I honestly don't think I'm going to ruin the VQ if I change it at 3k-4k.

I don't think you'll ruin the engine by going to synthetic right away, but there are some benefits of waiting a little bit. It's up to you though. Also, Royal Purple is excellent oil. I use it in my truck. The G gets M1 though.
